There’s no mention that the Bronco Sport and Maverick battery of any type (AGM or EFB) is defective in this 24S24 Help article from Ford.
Ford Help Article for 24S24:
2021—2024 Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022—2023 Maverick Trucks — Loss of Power Recall
https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/recall/recalls-and-faqs/24s24-bronco-sport-2021-2024-and-maverick-2022-2023-loss-of-power-recall/
It’s a good article, worth taking time to read it.
Key takeaways from the article include:
“The current software for the Body Control Module and Powertrain Control Module is unable to detect — and thus compensate for — the decreasing performance in the life of a 12-volt battery. This could result in the vehicle unable to restart while using the Auto Start-Stop Technology or stalling while coming to a stop at low speeds.”
“Current software for the Body Control Module and Powertrain Control is unable to detect the decreasing performance over the life of a 12-volt battery.”
“What will the software repair do to fix the issue?
It will improve detection of and compensate for decreasing performance of the 12-volt battery and help maintain vehicle power. It will also notify the driver the battery is near the end of its life cycle.”
It would have been nice of Ford to provide a description of the algorithm used to detect the battery is near the end of its life cycle but no details that I’ve seen have been provided by Ford.
