There’s no mention that the Bronco Sport and Maverick battery of any type (AGM or EFB) is defective in this 24S24 Help article from Ford.

Ford Help Article for 24S24:
2021—2024 Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022—2023 Maverick Trucks — Loss of Power Recall
https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/recall/recalls-and-faqs/24s24-bronco-sport-2021-2024-and-maverick-2022-2023-loss-of-power-recall/

It’s a good article, worth taking time to read it.

Key takeaways from the article include:

“The current software for the Body Control Module and Powertrain Control Module is unable to detect — and thus compensate for — the decreasing performance in the life of a 12-volt battery. This could result in the vehicle unable to restart while using the Auto Start-Stop Technology or stalling while coming to a stop at low speeds.”

“Current software for the Body Control Module and Powertrain Control is unable to detect the decreasing performance over the life of a 12-volt battery.”

“What will the software repair do to fix the issue?
It will improve detection of and compensate for decreasing performance of the 12-volt battery and help maintain vehicle power. It will also notify the driver the battery is near the end of its life cycle.”

It would have been nice of Ford to provide a description of the algorithm used to detect the battery is near the end of its life cycle but no details that I’ve seen have been provided by Ford.

I like the idea of a notification when the battery is near death. How exactly will you be notified? Through the App?

I don’t recall seeing either how we are to be notified or what algorithm Ford added in recall 24S24 to determine “the battery is near the end of its life cycle” but I would guess it’ll appear on the main screen in the center of the instrument cluster like other messages and most likely in the FordPass App, Account screen where it says Messages but I don’t know that for sure.

I like the idea of being notified that the battery is near the end of its life. Hopefully the notification provides enough time to get the battery replaced without ending up having it go dead to quickly.

I have been buying Fords for a long time. After having a battery on a 95 Windstar go bad just past the 3 year warranty I have been replacing the batteries right around every 3 years. Replacing the battery even when it seems ok is money well spend if it keeps me from being stranded with a dead battery. Hopefully the batteries on the BS will last the 3 years especially after the recall update.

I do the same except the +110°F endless summer heat means I replace my battery at the 2 year point. It’s like a maintenance item to me, replaced on a schedule of time.

I had a 2018 Escape Titanium with an AGM battery. It gave me little warning of it's pending doom.

One day working, the net day completely dead. Heat is a killer for batteries.

I mentioned before on this forum that I had a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The battery was under the passenger seat. It was an AGM and when I sold it in 2020 it still had the original battery.

A battery lasts a lot longer if it is kept fully charged most of the time. My 1995 F-250 still had the original battery after 10 years. I seldom drove it, and had a 5 watt solar panel on the dash to keep it from running down.

A volt meter on your dash will tell you a lot about the state of your alternator and battery. If it isn't over 13 volts when running, your alternator is dying. If it isn't above about 12.5 when sitting, your battery is probably dying.

I use this one, cost about $13 when I bought it and now is about $16. Not the best display accuracy but I use it for the purpose you stated plus can take a video of the display while starting the vehicle.

Me, too. All in all, have absolutely loved them.

I really miss the Windstar. Would buy another in a heartbeat if it was offered again (as it was, not a transmorgified one like what happened to the Escape in MY2013). It got too little attention, but IMHO was easily the best minivan at that time. I think even better than the Honda Odyssey offered then.

That's exactly what the recall seems to refer to with "Sudden degradation" and "sudden decrease in SOC."

Similar to your Grand Cherokee, the Sprinter chassis our RV is on has an AGM under the driver's side floor. I kept/keep a Battery Tender (BT) on it and it lasted 10 years. In fact, in hindsight it was still good -- the Sprinter had a problem that was unrelated to the battery. We had it tested (3 times) before replacing it. The tests were inconclusive. Had it not been for the unrelated problem, we would have had no reason to have it tested and that battery would have lasted even longer.

The combination of the cooler location and the BT make a big difference.

Yes, I agree no warning on when the battery would go so having this recall done and hopefully seeing members on this forum posting experiences that the updates allowed for warning of pending battery failure that was able to be addressed prior to the battery dying on them. Having a vehicle warning of a battery low voltage is something I have not seen before. It will be great if it actually helps prevent having the battery die if the warning is addressed timely.

We bought a second generation Windstar after it was time to replace the first one. We have also been buying our Fords from the same dealer over the years. I can't say that I never had issues but in my case I always felt the dealer and even Ford came through for me.
