55 Chevy with a 3 on the tree. Does that count as a VW? I did have a VW dune buggy for several years in the late 70's. It was fun but was had to be push start it most of the times which became a pain.

I’m sure I’ve posted it here before in similar threads, but my fav of all time was my 2007 F150. Second vehicle I ever bought, ordered new. Even got the factory nav system in it, an incredible rarity for these at the time, though I had to buy the Sirius module & add it myself. Kept it for nearly a decade & 200k. Drove it all over the western half of the continent on so many epic trips. Sold in preparation to move to the city thinking it would be too large, despite the fact that’s all anybody drives around here. Plus I didn’t think I needed a truck any longer. My analysis wasn’t necessarily wrong, but every vehicle since, & I’ve churned them at a much higher rate since, has been a letdown or failed to live up to my expectations set by this rig. Should’ve kept it, conceivable that I’d still be driving it.

By far the best road trip vehicle I’ve had & I want to start getting out of the city a lot more. If I thought the size was doable maybe I need to go down & look at something like this.

This is easy for me. It was my 3rd Jeep Patriot Latitude. (2016) that I traded in on my BSBB. The Latitude was a step above the base as is my Big Bend edition. The Jeep was loaded with features that I lost when I traded it in. Heated seats and side view mirrors, CD player, lighted cup holders, automatic changing rear view mirror. If I had a time machine I'd go right back to the day I walked into that showroom and turn around and walk out.

I still have and daily drive my 2007 STX. 185K, and still strong.

Same here, my Renegade Limited was very comfy & equipped. It got flooded & subsequently totaled early this year. It wasn't without quirky manufacturer issues, but the day to day driving was easy and pretty intuitive in terms of creature comforts for the money. My Bronco Heritage is a beauty and comfy as hell, but it's like amateur hour next to a nicely equipped SUV- which is kind of odd, we've had a couple of Explorers through the years. They were certainly more basically sophisticated/equipped for (again) the money than this BS.

I also wonder how many learned to drive a stick shift (manual trans) on a VW.
I learned on a 1988 Nissan Sentra then moved to a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder.

Now I'm curious what kind of market share VW has... My cousin had a Scirocco and his brother was restoring a '65 Beetle (could be Super, not sure what ever happened to it).

1970 was the first production year of the Super Beetle, I believe.

I think 1971 model year for Super Beetles. 1965 would have been linkpin front end. Cheers!

My wife tried to learn on her cousins VW stick. I think she said both she and he were in neck braces for about 2 months.

I learned to drive a stick on a 1970 Dodge single bunk, twin screwed , cab over semi with a Detroit Allison diesel and a 13 speed load ranger tranny in it. Talk aboutbaptism by fire !

That was a custom tilt nose conversion that was popular to do back in the 70's on Chevy Bel Air's, Corvette's, & some other cars also.

An old friend from HS used to have one of those he got from his grandfather. They used real metal in cars then. That hood must have weighed a ton!

I've had several cars. Not that many compared to some here. I usually keep them until they die. Or, in the case of my little 2005 Honda, until I'm worried that they won't fair well in a collision. Which is why I bought my Bronco Sport. Age makes you worry about safety I guess.

Car with the best memories, aside from my first car, a VW Bug is:

My Subaru hatchback. Boxer engine, front wheel drive. I think it was an ’82, bought in '84. I worked at ski resorts out west with that little car and made it up the mountain every time. Once going up the canyon during a heavy snowfall I came beside a Jeep, probably a Cherokee, that was stuck in the snow. Asked them if they needed help, they said ā€˜no,’ I kept going up the mountain. Took it to the Keys twice, and Cape Cod five times. Put three mufflers on that dang car. One, installed by an idiot, fell off within 50 miles of leaving the shop as I crossed over the George Washington Bridge. Guy behind me ran over it and was not pleased. I once got a bad tank of gas in Windsor Ontario and the engine starting surging and struggling as I drove East. I found an auto shop in Canada, where I bought a new fuel filter and changed it in the parking lot. This didn’t quite do the trick. Eventually a place called Canadian Tire replaced the second fuel filter under the car. They kept the shop open late to do it. They guys there were fantastic and really helped me out. Eventually it got a hole in the floor which would get my shoe wet if I drove in the rain, so I had to keep water proof boot in the car for my left foot. (And a rock climbing helmet if I drove on the highway, because if I got in an accident, I didn’t want to get brain damage. Reading this, I kinda believe I was already there.) Eventually I sat in the driver’s seat and it fell about two inches below the vehicle floor. This made me sad.

I loved my 2009 Ford Flex but my wife thought it was too long and she wouldn’t drive it. Traded for an Escape after 3 years.
