Really! Well they sure made them look like a Subaru on the inside. Guess I really dodged a bullet there!Well, Subaru never owned SAAB. GM bought out half of the company in 1989, and then bought the other half in 2000.
But yeah, they were one of the de-facto snow belt car brands before AWD became super common. My 900s on snow tires were virtually unstoppable in the winter.
That was a custom tilt nose conversion that was popular to do back in the 70's on Chevy Bel Air's, Corvette's, & some other cars also. What is that first car? That hood is crazy!
This story made me laugh, as I always felt that my wife of 49 years married me because I drove a Corvette. It was a 71 (one of several we had until we had our son) with the L82 and a 4 speed, which she could not drive.1990 Mercury Tracer (not my actual car in the photo below, but exactly the same, including color). It wasn't sexy, but it was all I could afford as an NCO in the USAF going through a divorce. It was reliable--never had a whit of trouble out of it for 50K miles I drove it. Most importantly, it made the weekly 700-mile round trip between my duty station and my then girlfriend's (and current wife's) as economical as possible. In short, the car that made possible my life-time romance is my favorite.
BTW, the first time my wife saw that car she commented, "What a POS!" As soon as we were married and were able to combine our resources she "suggested" I get something different. God I love that woman...

Trouble is, I agree with her.Had my wife told me I was driving a POS at that time of my youth, I would have run, not walked away. Karma though, as we are still together.

Yea, the things wives and husbands do for each other, or for life changing events.Trouble is, I agree with her.![]()
