Yes, just open hood and plug in. Or have a cord come out an opening in the front end.

The picture shows attaching the negative to the terminal ... is this necessary with the trickle charger? Vs attaching it to the frame mounted charging post?
As Meanderthal mentioned, there is apparently a charge tracking sensor on the battery cable that won’t detect the charge amount if the frame ground is used. There is a video on this forum that brought this to people’s attention.

Well it can (from internal resistance) but far more slowly and yep I missed the part about disconnecting the negative terminal.
Yes, you are correct technically it can still drain, but it would not be from vehicle electronics. It would be the same as a battery sitting on shelf can discharge.

I read once that storing a brand new battery on the shelf should hold a charge as long as two years, with some diminishing over time. So 6 weeks is nothing for the tough (but low cost) bronco sport batteries Ford uses.

I say more like a year sitting at a nice toasty room temp at parts store. Not real world outdoors with cold, wind, rain, etc. LoL

Ordered the Noco Genius from Amazon. Due Wed 2/15.
Now I just have to find someone to install it.
Thanks for the advice!

MagicBus, please explain why disconnecting the Positive terminal is dangerous.

I find my BS Badlands won't keep fully charged in the winter with the mostly short drives I do. I notice, because the Auto Stop/Start quits working. I put a trickle charger on it overnight every couple of weeks. RV owners use a battery disconnect switch and leave their batteries on the trailer for the winter with no issues. If you store your BS outside, a $20 solar panel on your dash that plugs into the cigarette lighter will improve your battery life. O.K. maybe it is now $30 with Bidenflation.

Because it is so easy to bump your 10mm tool of choice against either the chassis or the NEG terminal. Battery safety dictates removing the NEG first. Since we are just doing a disconnect and not a removal, removing the NEG completes the job.

Update: Per peer advice on this forum, I followed the links in this thread and purchased:

I managed to drag the 5-minute install out to 20-minutes (LoL).
Pic below

I secured the mounting bracket via thick Zip Ties (supplemented by velcro wraps) instead of the supplied metal screws b/c I didn't want to drill holes in my BSFE w/ 2.0L engine, and concerns about dissimilar metals tendency to corrode.

After 3-weeks of inactivity, the battery charge was <75% but the Noco got it back to +/- 100% overnight, as indicated by the green light.

I won't be able to drive it for several weeks, but plan to check the zip-tie install regularly as it allows slight side-to-side movement.

Did you connect directly to the 12V Battery red terminal or to the other side of the mounted current detector?

The side one. I couldn't get it to the main one. But it's still under the red plastic cover.

Sounds good.. connecting to the incoming side of the current shunt will allow the BMS to keep track of the trickle charge current added to your battery
