RC Bull bar vs Black Horse Grille Guard

Currently torn between the RC Bull bar and the Black Horse Grille Guard. Ideally I would like to get the Grille Guard but not willing to purchase for $700 given there are no reviews on it and I’m not familiar with Black Horse products.

Also, it looks like you have to permanently remove a piece of front fascia to install the support brackets for the grille guard.

Does anyone have experience with grille guards particularly this brand? Is their a significant difference in protection vs the bull bar ?

I try to imagine sometimes where you guys drive to need something like that in a car like the BS ..... Maybe run over an elephant or any huge animal like that..... maybe a hipoppotamus crossing the road

I'm considering the Black Horse also. We own land near the Lincoln National Forest and have seen lots of carnage due to deer collisions. I like how it attaches to the frame, but i have a BL and worry about the tow hooks being in the way. They claim it won't be. I was/am hoping someone might chime. Did you pick one?

Still waiting to see what other options come out! I feel that $650 is a little steep for what it is. But, I plan on buying one this year. I drive cross country quite a bit and worry about small deer or animal strikes. I wish they had a mini ranch hand style grille guard....now that I would drop some cash on

Just this week, I was driing in the dark near Chama, NM and saw two dead elk on the side of the road, and had a deer run across 30 feet in front of us'.

Hitting a deer at any speed over 45 mph will probably total your car. A bull bar may save your radiator. Hitting an elk, may total you. They are tall enough to flip feet first into the vehicle and kick you to death. A bull bar won't help that.

I noticed they have a Armour Bull Bar | Matte Black | AB-F07-NL for less money and it comes with LED light bar. The light allows you to see the animals in time to slow down or stop.

No grill guard with extended sides is going to help you in a collision at any substantial speed. They simply fold back into the vehicle usually causing more damage. They are nice to put lights on, but with the only mounting points being on the tip of the unibody, they are fairly weak. You're not going to be PITing anyone or pushing cars out of traffic, so I feel brush guards are fairly cosmetic, but I like them!

I agree. They are essentially light bars.

A good friend and seasoned veteran of the body work side of the world calls them Overtime Bars. Because every time he gets a vehicle in with one, he's going to spend way too much time fixing and putting the vehicle back together because of the damage they do on impact. They look neat and are good places for lights as you said but that's about where it ends.

Grille guard on my 2006 F150 took a hit a couple times. Saved the truck from getting damaged except for a fender dent from it folding back when I was unfortunate enough to be part of an 4 car accident at about 35. Added some character. But clearly the one on my truck has a lot more heft than the one in that photo.

That said, leaning towards the bull bar.
