Some of you may have seen my battery issue post from a few months ago. I actually quit this forum because of the non-supportive remarks.
.I've either got a one of a kind electrical issue, or a known issue that people just don't know or care about.
i don't put a lot of miles on my BSOB. after 18 months I've barely got 6000 miles on it.
I noticed this issue about four months after I purchased it.
The "Start/Stop feature quit working first. I went to the manual, and YouTube, and finally this forum looking for a solution.
As it turns out, when the battery drops below some mysterious level, all kinds of things quit working, the most noticeable (if you use it) is the start/Stop feature.
I went to Ford Service, and the first answer I got was "Oh it won't work when the temp is less than 40 degrees. It happened to be about 35 degrees that day. This had been going on for well over a month in warmer weather, so I was not convinced. I had to take it in for a different issue, and asked them to check the battery, since I had started monitoring it, and it was dropping below 12 volts just sitting overnight. This time they said the battery was discharged and kept it for two days and the only thing on the service report was "Charged battery". It worked (for three days) and then it was back to features not working and I showing drops overnight. I brought it back in and asked them to check the alternator, or whatever charges these 21st century computerized nightmares. Their response was "The alternator's alright, it would show up on the report we run if it wasn't. They also claimed they tested the battery and it was good. The issue continued and I brought it in again for a window part that had been backordered and told them the voltage was still dropping. By chance - a specialist tech that travels to multple dealerships to deal with issues was there working on a different vehicle. He told the tech working on my car to run a level 2 battery diagnostic. It failed, and they installed a new battery. I thought the issue was finally resolved. Everything worked fine for about five weeks. I even quit running voltage checks because they seemed to be holding above 12 volts.
Then one day the Start/Stop failed and the issue was back. I charged the battery with my agm charger, and everything started working for a few days.
Then I didn't drive it for a couple of days, and I got a message that my BSOB had been put into Deep Sleep mode, and if I couldn't start it, I should call the Service department. It also went on to say that I could resolve the issue myself by going for a drive "REALLY" it actually says that.
So Your battery is going to drain in three days if you don't drive it, and you will have to go for an hour drive to charge it.
I'm not exaggerating that hour drive. I had to drive for nearly an hour before I stopped at a red light and the Start/stop worked. This is crazy stuff.
Once again - I've written a book, but I hope you understand that I have tried to figure this out, and tried to trust Ford to help out, and have basically been told - no LITERALLY been told by the manager of the Service department - that if i'm not having any other issues, I should just drive it.
Please - somebody - tell me there is a solution for this.

My second vehicle always sits a lot. 3k-4k miles per.
Now the second vehicle is the Bronco Sport. I've always used this item to maintain the battery 100% charge for many years. There are other brands but it's a good idea for you to use one.

I have a 2023 Bronco Sport Big Bend 1.5, and have had it since 5 March 2023. I am having the same issue. My start/stop has not worked for the past 2 moths and the passenger door touch lock/unlock stopped working because of the Deep Sleep Mode as well. Also because of the Deep Sleep Mode my Ford App wont work to lock/unlock doors or remote start. I have an appointment with the Dealers shop on 9 Aug. see what happens from there? Besides, I have 9000 miles plus as of today, drive at least 30 miles a day which should keep the battery charged. At first I was thinking it was just because I was using the A/C but who the heck knows.

@biglarrr … I see you already got a new battery but even new batteries are known to be bad.. however I suspect you have a parasitic drain on your battery. What are all the accessories that have been added to your BS over time?

Thank You for responding. I can do that. I'm basically doing that now, with a standard AGM charger, that goes to a maintenance status when battery is fully charged, but it's a band-aid fix.
OK - I'm 73 years old, and owned over a dozen cars previous to this one, and my last car was a 2014 Subaru, so I'm a little behind on these new electronic marvels, but my wife has a 2022 Kicks (not all the electroic toys the BSOB has), but it's got a pretty good assortment of options, and it has never had a battery issue.
I appreciate your input. I just wish there was a fix. Maybe an option to shut off all of the excess electronic stuff until you're in the car with your fob. I've gone as far as hanging my keys on the opposite end of the house, and still - every time I walk past the car, it clicks, and lights come on which leads to ten minutes of fans cooling the lights that didn't need to come on, and who knows what else that is draining the battery at a rate of about .6volts per day.
And if ford is aware, why can't they lower the cutoff voltage for features that are used daily.

My BSOB is exactly the way it came from the factory. I haven't added anything to it. For awhile after the issue occurred, I plugged a battery voltage monitor into the accessory port on the dash, but other than that - nothing.
I've gone through the entire options menu, and turned off everything that I could.
I replied to the other responder that I have even moved my keys to the opposite side of the house, because every time I get within five feet of it, the lights come on, I hear some relays clicking, and as you probably know, once those lights come on, a fan runs for ten minutes to cool, and supposedly blow out any moisture that might be in the light well.
I've gone back to monitoring the battery again, and if I don't drive it at highway speed for at least a half an hour every day, the battery voltage drops, and things quit working until I charge it up, or drive it for an hour.
The band-aid solution is to run a cable with a connector to my charger to the outside of the car, and plug it in twice a week. I don't consider this acceptable.
I did consider purchasing an aftermarket battery, but a good AGM battery is about $300, and I really don't think it's a battery problem.

I have a new BSBL only 400 mi on it. It sat at the airport parking lot for 5-1/2 days no issue. I would get a multimeter or amp clamp and see what kind of draw you have when the Sport is turned off. Then verify with a Ford tech to see what is normal. Could have a defective part drawing abnormal power. Had an issue with the rear window wiper motor in a 2012 Escape not reaching the park position. Becase the way wiper motors work if not fully in park position they will continue to draw power even with the key off. I had to pull one fuse at a time to figure out what circuit was causing the problem.

You may need to consider getting a parasitic drain test. Pretty easy to do if you know how (with the right meter).

a typical battery drain on modern vehicles might be 60-85 milliamperes which is 60-85 milliamperes per hour. That’s to run the various electronics in the vehicle even when the vehicle is off.

The reserve capacity in a new bronco sport battery might be 120 minutes. So it would be many many days to drain the reserve capacity at a typical battery drain but if you have a much higher parasitic drain that will stress your battery much quicker.

Considering so many here have had battery problems, I'd start with a battery change. I'd go with a better quality one.

I second that, there is no telling what quality of battery they actually put in your car, how old it is, or if it was a good battery to begin with

My 2022 BL has gone into Deep Sleep mode twice. Had it since March and I'm coming up on 8,000 miles. I travel out of town a lot, and both times it entered this mode I was gone for around 2 weeks. On a third trip, I was gone about 13 days, and it hadn't gone into Deep Sleep mode yet. Seems like, for me, it enters DS mode when me and my key fobs are gone for exactly 14 days. In all 3 cases, the BL started up fine - no issues at all. I also keep my spare key in a faraday pouch when I'm out of town. Sounds like there's just got to be something draining your battery, an electrical short, or a bad battery itself.

Another factor, how long are your usual drives? I’ve killed batteries on several cars with short commutes and errands. I put a hood solar panel on for that, and to offset all the vampire loads from computers, headlight cooling fans, etc. while camping. More things to drain the battery while parked with most new cars. Anecdotally, it feels like newer cars have a bit undersized batteries and alternators that are less amenable to frequent short drives

As for the stop/start, I think it has multiple conditions to activate. Something beyond voltage and engine temp. It often works in less five minutes for me if I’m parked in the sun on a hot day. Cold day with lots of errands, parking out of the sun, maybe half an hour. It’s not consistent enough for it only to be about temp and voltage though.

Oh, and do you have any accessories you plug in while driving? The start/stop turns off if you exceed a certain load on the 12v or 110v outlets

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Bronco concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

What KIND of battery did they install? I believe most experiencing battery issues that demanded an AGM replacement battery have not had further issues.

Not related to the BS directly however, we have several other Ford's at work with low mileage and very short drives when in use. We installed battery tenders on all of them as there is a constant drain on with all of this new internal and wireless tech.

All vehicles resolved their low battery issues and no longer have any problems with start/stop or other operating issues.
