You can carry a cell phone and still have face to face conversation. It's a choice made by the individual to have respect for the people they are with. It sounds like you would make the "right" choice, even if you had a cell phone on you. I definitely put the priority on the people I'm with but I do keep an eye on other messages I may receive, usually through the Apple Watch. I do not break away from a visit with people to reply to an email or text message unless it is extremely time sensitive.

There are lots of reasons to have the smartphone with you but you have probably heard most of those already. I'm old enough to remember when cell phones were just phones and I almost never sent a text message until I got a smartphone because 10-key texting was the worst way to communicate.
Besides, too much stuff to carry for me. My wife has hers.

Not a darn thing. I toss it in the cubby and link it through the system.
This^^^^^^^. Most of the time it just stays in my pocket unless we are traveling a long distance.

While i've considered a proper mount, mine goes in a cupholder or on the charger. I don't have much need for my phone while driving, day to day. If i need navigation, i just plug into the USB and then everything is up on the big screen.

I do the same as Wolf256, let the phone sit in the cubby as it's linked to the vehicle.

Same here, my wife puts it in the cubby below the radio & has it linked to the system so when a call comes in it shows up on the screen. You can then either answer or ignore the call. No need for the phone to hang off the dash.

First, I plug in one of the Ottocast wireless adapters to one of the front USB outlets and I keep the phone in the console attached to the Apple wireless charging pad. I mostly use CarPlay; I only need to look at the phone to resolve any issues that may pop up.

Mine is similar to NoOne. Besides holding phones it can hold mini boxing gloves, or dashcams. Got it off Amazon.

Genuinely curious - not trying to ruffle feathers - why do folks use a phone mount when there's a screen? Why not just plug in for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?
Exactly, I use a wireless CarPlay module and leave the iPhone on the charging mat under dash. You can do voice phone, text and navigation from screen. No need to interact physically with phone.

I like to stick a mount high up on the windshield so the phone is directly in my face Sure it obscures some of the road but that‘s what sensors are for, right?

Kidding! Though, sadly I do see that all the time.

Mine goes in the cupholder or on the charging mat.
