Hi... and thanks for accepting my request to join the group! My name is Joe and I recently moved from a 2014 Ford Escape Titanium to a 2023 Bronco Sport.

I've always liked the look of the Bronco and the size of the Sport, but read a lot about noise levels, ride, etc. Finally took a test drive and I was AMAZED. This thing is as good a ride as my old Escape! Being a used Bronco Sport Outer Banks, I was able to get a much better deal with (almost all) the bells and whistles that were on my Escape and still get it at a reasonable price (for a retired person).

I'm a long-term Ford owner. My first car was a 1975 Ford Maverick... back when the Maverick was a sedan and not a truck.

Welcome. The Sport is the perfect replacement for an Escape. Rides much nicer than my old 2006.

Rides completely different than my 2 Dr full size. Similar to apples tasting different from oranges.

Hi, I'm Bill, from the Pacific Northwest. Sounds like an intro to one of those meetings "My last cars have not been Fords, but I suspect this Ford will BE my last car ..."

Tomorrow the plan is to sign papers on an Eruption Green Outer Banks, which hopefully will be ready for pickup within a week. Coming from another Manufacturer, basicall the same car and color since 2013, which ends in X-5, was about to wait for a Green X-50 one, then due to some odd circumstances test drove a Bronco Sport and was more than pleasantly surprised.

I will miss the Heads Up Display, the other features however make up with value. And I get a day at Bronco Rodeo, at MY advanced age I HAVE to go for it!

I hope to learn from many here, I already have a question or two that I will post soon. And I promise to not be a PITA, will always try to search before Newby-Time LOL.

In time, from regular maintenance tire rotations, the plastic outer portion becomes damaged and distorted, making it impossible to remove with a normal lug wrench or socket. DP and McGard are 2 brands commonly bought.

Rushman: Hadn't thought about the lug nuts! I just traded my 2014 Escape for a BS Outer Banks... but before I did, they were rotating the tires and the lug nuts had frozen and broken the posts. Cost me $250 at the dealer to get them replaced (just in time to trade it in!)

I learned about the lug nuts being a potential problem when I was on the Escape forum... I had a '17 Escape SE, that I traded in on my Badlands. I put chrome McGards on my Escape, and black DP lug nuts on my Badlands. No particular reason why I chose one brand over the other, although I believe McGard has the better warranty.

I don't believe there is any plastic. Two-piece lug nuts are made from a steel core with a chrome chromed cover pressed on. The chrome cover is meant to prevent moisture getting to the steel core. Two-piece lug nuts have been used for decades with no issues. The problem is many shops use impact wrenches to remove/install lug nuts, and that damages the chrome cover. This is the reason some shops prohibit the use of impact wrenches to remove/install lug nuts.

If you know the shop of your choice uses impact tools for tire maintenance then a one-piece lug makes sense. Then again, if you inspect your lug nuts after a shop visit and find damage it should be up to the shop to replace them.

Chromium metal is a very hard brittle metal. It is not ductile. It is also extremely expensive and only used as a very thin protective or decorative coating, microns thick. I'm a retired metallurgist and have worked with pure chromium. We used pure metals in some basic proof of concept experiments and in lab scale alloying. The outer coating on Ford lug nuts deforms easily.

Regardless, Ford's lug nuts are crap. A class action lawsuit says they are aluminum capped.
Ford isn't the only one using these type of lug nuts. A relative's $100k GMC Yukon Denali also had similar composite construction lug nuts, which failed in the first year of ownership.

Yes, I mistyped. I meant to say "chromed." The metal cap is chrome plated to prevent rust. The caps are sometimes made from stainless steel, but these are generally more expensive.
