It’s not really fear mon

They definitely fixed the coolant intrusion issues by redesigning the block and leaving the sidewalls thick while adding slimmer water jackets.

The main issues on the 1.5 3cyl are:

- Water pumps failing
- Lack of belt tensioner
- Pretty bad vibrations at low speeds
- Very bad vibrations at idle with the AC on
I just wanted to say…the 2.0T have a lot of documented issues and these are very common:
  • Coolant Intrusion
  • Cracked Exhaust Manifold
  • Turbo/Boost Control Solenoid Failure
  • Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Failure (LPFP)
  • Carbon Build-up
Some of these are starting to pop right back up…so for some of you out there thinking the 2.0 is a better buy, keep an eye out…you might join the ‘Ecobomb’ crew.

the judge is still out for the new Dragon engines.

Define "very common." We've had cars with the 2.0L for 7 plus years. We put +140K on one with none of those issues. Still ran like a scalded cat and got 30 mpg when we traded it in.

my 2021 Escape 2.0 needed a new block right when it hit 45k because of coolant intrusion….I am one, there are thousands of people out there and Ford has a lot of TSBs covering these well known issues with the 2.0…

That’s not the current 2.0 eco boost.
My 21 Escape suffered from the exactly same issue…just saying! Took a few years and several lawsuits for Ford to issue a recall for the 16-19 models, I am expecting to join a class action in the next year for the 21-23 models…already contacted a law firm that has a few folks!

Go to Carmax or Carvana and get a number. It will be higher than a dealer. I just went through that with my trade. Dealers told me they can't match Carmax for whatever reason. I got $2K more for a Ridgeline I traded with Carmax. Even Honda wouldn't match Carmax when I was interested in a Passport.
One thing to consider when trading at the dealer vs. selling elsewhere then buying a BS at a Ford dealer is the sales tax implication. In many states, the value of the trade-in is applied to the new car before calculating sales tax.

$40K BS less $10,000 trade-in = $30K taxable. Using a 6% tax rate, sales tax would be $1800

$40K BS, no trade, 6% rate is $2400 sales tax.

You just want to make sure that if you are selling your old car elsewhere you are getting enough of a difference to account for the sales tax increase on the new car, plus enough left over that it makes it worth the time and effort opposed to just doing it all at one time at the dealer.

True and a great point. No vehicle sales tax in SC but we have property tax..

Let's not sink all the way down to simply taking swipes at each other's engines. ALL ENGINES HAVE ISSUES.....its like the principle of moving parts or something ?

I think there are two truths here.

The book has yet to be written on the 3 banger turbo. But hey! There are LESS moving parts here, so it might be eventually on to something.

The 4 banger turbo is probably the most tried and true version of forced induction engines. Twin turbos have way more capacity for error.....again....more moving parts.

Yep the jury is still tots out on the Dragon…we don’t have enough data to determine either way yet.

But kinda disagree on the Ecoboost 2.0 - lots of data and problems out there, I know this is a revised version but 2017 also had a revised version of it but coolant intrusion continued to be an issue. And like I said, although I’m 1…my 2021 Escape 2.0 (sold after the long block was replaced) suffered the same fate.

I’d actually dare to say, one is better off with the Dragon engine vs Ecoboost!!

It's not just Bronco Sports, used car prices in general are dropping.
Most used car dealers, especially the big guys like CarMax, Carvana, Vroom, etc.. are still struggling with inflated inventories that they acquired at a premium during and since covid. Ford dealerships won't want a used BS if they have new ones on the lot, especially with the plummeting price of used.

I didn’t say anything about the “Ecoboost 2.0”. Re-read the statement without your built in confirmation bias.

Well you said 4 banger turbo, Ford only has 1 4 banger turbo in the Escape platform - the Ecoboost 2.0 4 banger turbo…
