Seems the only correct choice when purchasing a BS is the Badlands. Spoke to a few dealers after hearing the rumor - it’s true for 3 of the 5 I called.

“We have too many on the lot, can’t use it right now.”

”a lot of people are trading them towards Badlands models.”

”We can, but you would be better off using Carvana etc.”

Other 2 dealers offered $1500 under what Carvana was offering.

Really hope the bottom doesn’t fall out on these - people are becoming, understandably, frustrated with the 1.5. I’ve been researching and logging all the failed water pumps, found 4 so far that have gone out that are the new design.

Thoughts? I’m not saying this is fact, just what I’ve heard first hand.

Combine your concerns with the fact that BS production has increased dramatically just recently. I've always been puzzled by the fact they don't build more of their top end product that yields the highest profits. Maybe supply constraints. The Carvana price on my 21 BL has gone down $3K in the past two months.

The mid-range trim levels are always the biggest sellers. For instance, you will see a lot more Escapes SE models than Titaniums, F-150 XLT than Lariat, etc. on the road.

The lower trims were always expected to be high volume before the pandemic disrupted everything. This is one reason why I sold my old Big Bend near the market top: I knew at some point Ford would churn out a ton of these and their value would crater, especially when the rental ones inevitably hit the used market.

Combine that with declining used car prices, the 1.5L engine being "meh" for a lot of people (including me), and the build quality frankly not warranting the rich prices of the past few years...not surprised by this at all.

I hesitated to buy an OB because of the 1.5L. I'm still nervous about it. I would have bought an OB with a 2.0L option in a heartbeat. My area in SC is a Charlotte suburb. Plenty of BBs but not many OBs with the options I wanted. I couldn't find one in the cactus gray/ebony roast.
Yes, I could have opted for a BL but don't go off-road, read the ride is rougher and it's $5K more comparably equipped with my OB. First Edition prices are nuts and I'm not a fan of graphics.
Used Sports here are very close to new ones in price. I think the used and new numbers will drop very soon.
Though, one Ford dealer in Charlotte has a $10K market adjustment and $1500 in accessories on Bronco sports. Crazy.
I wound up getting one at MSRP with some dealer added accessories FREE and two years of tire rotations and oil changes from Ford.

When I went to Quick Lane at the dealer for service last Saturday they asked multiple times if they could buy my Badlands. I should have asked them what the offer would be as they had some nicely optioned full size Broncos I'd be interested in.

Interesting. All I'll say is that I bought my Badlands last month. I was certain I wanted the 2.0 engine, and really nothing else mattered for me, outside of that. I really was unaware of any pricing dyamic on it. I was simply looking for the cheapest price on a 23 Badlands..

I had about a total of 10 or 12 to choose from IN TOTAL.... from Tampa/Orlando on down south to where I am, in Miami. That's it. I searched every Ford dealer and while plenty had the other models, the BAdlands were few and far between.

Yep, traded my Big Bend for a Badlands. Seems to be a very common route right now because so many of us were not very pleased with the 1.5L 3 banger. I certainly was not a fan.

That right there is why I didn’t buy an Outer Banks to begin with. That and I didn’t want 18” wheels (that I find ugly). I have no use for wheels bigger than 17”.

My dealer starts emailing just about as soon as the next model year drops showing I could be in a comparable 23 for similar/less payment. Their sales pitch typically starts out with the vehicle you’re currently in, then escalates to examining all options. Usually they’ll leave a sales pitch card with a QR code in the car after service as well.

Every time I see a full-size around (like at the Ford car show today) I’m tempted, but I think everything about them would be a compromise compared to the BS for how cars typically get used. Maybe when the 24 Ranger hits lots. My favorite vehicles have always been trucks. But I was shocked to realize today that a modern F150, the box sides come up to my chest & I’m a 6’ guy, not that short!

Wait, what else is wrong with the 1.5 mechanically other than the recall? Now I’m curious.

I don’t want to trade my OBX in because I like it and I can’t order Velocity Blue anymore. Also, I can’t afford to trade it in either, I don’t want to do another loan if you know what I mean.

I hope these problems were fixed by Ford. Plenty of articles Googling that I didn't read and wished I did on the 1.5.

I agree about the larger wheel. 17” is plenty big.
