I had a 2001 escape. First one delivered to my area. First year for them. I loved that vehicle. When I sold it, it was 15 years old and had 378,000 miles. She was the reason I had no hesitation on buying a first model year Sport.
I bought the first year model OB and happy with the vehicle. Two water pumps though. Second one was with the added instructions to flush the system before replacing which obviously the cause for the second failure. Have you had any issues?

21 BL/BL , 36K , other than noisy back up brakes, no problems. The 4 cylinder powerplant seems to have turned out to be a better option. The love affair continues. Plans are to drive the pony till the hooves fall off.

Besides the recalls everyone has had, I have not had any issues. The only thing I would change on my OB is the towing capacity. I wish it had just a bit more.

My '22 BB had its original pump replaced, it was at a routine oil and filter change that the mechanic discovered the leak. I never suspected! This happened after the updated replacement instructions of flushing the system before the install. So from Friday to the next Tuesday we were given a loaner. Since the job we had no further issues. Drove it another 7k before trading her in for our '24 BB.

Some thoughts about Consumer Reports (CR):

I've been a subscriber for almost 40 years. For a long time I subscribed to both the magazine and the website. Then, after rightfully warning about the dangers and evil of Facebook (FB) for several years, CR suddenly began using FB! If members want to comment on FB articles they must create a FB account! I complained but of course that had no effect, so I cancelled our decades-long magazine subscription. I've kept the online subscription because cancelling it would be cutting of my nose to spite my face.

So, IOW, I'm not a CR fanboy.

That said, they remain the best source of unbiased, objective information. People that refuse to acknowledge that usually fall into one or both of these groups:

1) They've been led to believe that CR is run by a bunch of socialists.
2) CR has given a poor rating to a product they own and like.

Of course if their pet product gets a good rating then CR is clearly the best organization ever! Knowledgeable, scientific, and professional. :cool:

I just completed their quarterly survey yesterday. Generally speaking, the surveys are pretty well designed, but they are not entirely objective. They have questions like:

* When was this [product] purchased?
* Brand/model/cost?
* Has it ever required repairs? Were they successful? Covered by warranty?
* How often do you use it?
* Would you a) buy it again?; b) recommend it to a friend?
* Many other subjective questions.

I try to provide accurate info, but (for example) it's sometimes difficult to determine how often a product is used and for how long.

Also, there are environmental factors. Take lawn mowers. We live on the side of a (small) mountain with rough, rocky soil. There's a huge difference between a typical smooth suburban yard and our roughly 1 acre 'rock garden.' It's not that bad, but our mowers take a beating.

Still, they collect a very large number of surveys, so the extremes are averaged out. Here is more info about their methods for anyone interested:

This is more specific to the BS ratings:

"I just completed their quarterly survey "? So now we know their sources, THEIR SUBS! No thanks, never asked me about anything. Then again, I'm not (nor ever will be)a subscriber

Thank God, I won’t be getting rid of my ’21 BL/BL any time soon (unless it gets crashed or just plain blows up). Other than squalling brakes (who cares??), bad battery, and two minor recall(s) it’s been really good for four years and over 36,000 miles. So, are there things I wish Ford had done better . . . sure, but then I’ve had the same feelings about some other, more expensive, cars.
CR and other rating groups can say what they want, but I would recommend the BS to anyone lookig for a small CUV.

I love my 2023, but yes I agree, why would they put a rear wiper on that only cleans 1/4 of the rear window haha

I did have the water pump replaced once. Otherwise, no problems. I don't even have the backup fog horn noise. I've been curious if those of us who pre ordered our sports have had less trouble. Or if it's just the luck of the draw.

Would you like that class exclusive back up fog horn? I’ll let you borrow mine! It normally doesn't annoy me much. But today it was abnormally loud.

ā€˜21 BB 39k, only one recall on the water pump and that’s it. We have an extended warranty but we do all the maintenance ourselves, based on shorter service intervals than Ford recommends. I have studied everything I can get my hand on about the vehicle (service manuals, TSBs., etc). My advice: As long as you know your BS, inside and out, and keep up with maintenance, TSBs, and recalls, the BS can prove to be a reliable vehicle. It’s not that hard to safely lift the BS in your garage and do most of the critical maintenance items yourselves. If turning wrenches isn’t your thing, most Ford dealership shops can do it for you. There are quite a few items that I turnover to Ford techs to do - alignments, suspension work, etc. But by and large, keeping the BS rolling is pretty easily done.
