This was a first for me. We were driving on a two lane semi-rural highway at 60 mph when I got a pre-collision alert on the instrument cluster and an urgent sounding chime.

There were a couple cars coming the other direction and one car waiting to enter the highway from a road on my right. None of them were a threat to cause a collision.

It happened far enough in advance that I could have avoided any collision that was imminent so that’s reassuring.

The warning was a large red box with the words in white letters. I was surprised to have the warning occur in that situation.
Mine happened when passing a plow on a snowy road. Shocked the bejesus out of me ...

I have had pieces of large cardboard fly across the road and it sensed it and provided a warning. Better to be alerted even if it is not an emergency, than maybe miss something. I have also had it go off when a car merged in front of me with no notice and going slower than I was.

I had my 25 BS slam to a stop trying to back up with a mountain bike and rack on the back. It was not a pleasant experience.
Was there any damage after this???

I find my errors a lot when it is real foggy or snowing hard and lights just show up closer than it expected them to be. I have never had it go off on a clear night.

I guess someone has to be "that guy" and so I guess it's me, but, does anyone read the owner manual? Despite the manual's warnings, I also prefer a lower sensitivity setting for this. Typically the warning goes off when someone turns in front of me or encroaches from the side. I think the warning is more for a situation where the other driver does a stupid. As long as the other driver keeps going or stops there would be no collision but the system makes you look for the issue. I don't think a pedestrian has ever set off an alarm but I also don't think anyone has ever run right at my driving car.

It would happen on my 2020 fusion if a car was turning and it thought I was too close and it put LED lights on my windshield as well as making that beeping noise. It was a line of red LED right on the windshield.

I find that it happened to me before and it was that black box below grill, had snow splashing on it, it blocked the signal. My buddy's escape had his go off when he didn't clean off the ice in the top portion of the windshield.

On trash days, there's been a couple of times when I'm backing up and I know I'm far enough away from them but as I'm over aways from them, my Bronco Sport will come to a halt, like really quick and about gives me whiplash! At least I know it's working even though I thought I was far enough away that I knew I wouldn't hit them!

I've had mine brake a couple of times. Once when a car in front of me pulled into the left turn lane. There was no danger, but it braked hard. I've heard enough people say that it saved their butts, so I'll keep it on high sensitivity.

Mine has never gone off while backing up, even when I jackknifed my trailer into the sensor.
