This was a first for me. We were driving on a two lane semi-rural highway at 60 mph when I got a pre-collision alert on the instrument cluster and an urgent sounding chime.

There were a couple cars coming the other direction and one car waiting to enter the highway from a road on my right. None of them were a threat to cause a collision.

It happened far enough in advance that I could have avoided any collision that was imminent so that’s reassuring.

The warning was a large red box with the words in white letters. I was surprised to have the warning occur in that situation.

Has anyone ever had it engage the brakes?

It comes on for me at seemingly random times and never when I'm about to collide with someone. I don't understand what the criteria is that makes the alert appear, but it's never when the car in front of me abruptly slows down. I've never had it engage the brakes. I'm curious if/when it does that, but I definitely don't want to test it.

it would be a lot more helpful if it gave the date and time too.

I have had a few of these alerts. Usually they are from someone in front of me that slows down to make a right turn. I have always had enough time to apply the brakes (sometimes not necessary) but never had the brakes apply because I didn't already apply them. I feel like if the brakes apply on their own it might be too late to avoid a collision.

I've had it apply the brakes on the BS BB I had[Maverick owner now] before I hit the car in front of Me. FWIW the Maverick I have now I have had it come on with nothing in front of Me or any vehicles coming the other direction.

This is what I expected would happen if the brakes automatically apply. Not necessarily avoiding an accident but lessening the impact and maybe avoiding it.

Here is more information from the 2024 owner manual including adjustments to the system Content

It was not u . U must have had the cruise on. The truck saw car waiting on the right and thought it could cause a problem. Mine does it and has done it several times

I had my 25 BS slam to a stop trying to back up with a mountain bike and rack on the back. It was not a pleasant experience.
I have that happen regularly. We have a 200’ long driveway in front of the garage where I park the Bronco. Our motorhome sits next to that garage and I back around the end of the MH so I can turn around and drive out forward. If I cut it too close, the Bronco thinks I’m going to hit the MHand applies the brakes.

Yes once shortly after I got mine it hit the brakes while I was following another car, even before I noticed they had suddenly slowed without signalling. I would have been alright but I was impressed. I turned all that stuff off though, I got tired of having my neck snapped when backing up.

Reverse assist has to be the most annoying "feature" in the history of automobiles.

I just had the brakes applied again using adaptive cruise control. so maybe that’s the thing if you have adaptive cruise control on your front collision avoidance thing kicks in automatically.
