Well we got seemingly two different answers to the same question:

1. If your tires fall 25% below established baseline, then your TPMS light will illuminate.

( the above is a bit unclear since “tires” is plural so probably Discount Tire may have meant “If a tire falls 25% below established baseline, then your TPMS light will illuminate” where perhaps (but I don’t know) established baseline means Ford’s recommended tire pressure located on the drivers side inside door panel which mine says “AT 230 KPa/ 33 PSI COLD” )

And…

2. Don't believe the system looks for a specific tire pressure, it looks for a difference between tires. For example, if one tire is 6 psi lower than the rest you'll get a check tire pressure warning.

If my Falken WildPeaks were more worn down, I’d think about getting a set with the KO2’s being so highly discounted right now. Has anyone tried the KO3’s yet? I wonder how much better they really are.

When I saw I could get 315’s for the full size for $225, I almost ordered a set to have a spare. That’s nearly 50% off!

It actually does look for a certain tire pressure. When I head off-road I usually air down my tires and I do so using a MorrFlate system so all tire pressures are equalized. Last time out I aired down to 18 psi and the low tire pressure warning light stayed on until I made it back to the highway and aired back up.

I'm not certain at what pressure the warning light comes on, but I do believe one time I aired down to 20 psi and didn't get the warning light.

@Chiefthepup your vehicle does not require a TPMS reset after tire installation. The BS has an Auto-Detection system. After driving for 15 minutes above 30mph the system resets itself. They may have been trying to force the sensors to learn with the scan tool. If your tires fall 25% below established baseline, then your TPMS light will illuminate. I hope this helps. :like:
That’s EXACTLY the info I needed. Thank you!!!!! ??

Hmmmm. I had exactly the opposite experience. I aired down my tires when I went to the off-road park in Indiana in late May and got no warnings at all. I guess it doesn't really make sense to have a direct pressure measurement for each tire if the system isn't comparing it to some set value. I only aired down to around 22 PSI. Perhaps that wasn't low enough to trigger the sensor.

I have always been under the impression that the trigger was based on one/more of the tire pressures being different from the others by a certain amount (not that I know what that difference is). Cheers!

Not low enough would be my assumption. At 20psi the sensor doesn't trip on my Badlands.

It might also work this way, but like I said it definitely triggered when my tires got down to 18psi, and as mentioned, the system I use to inflate/deflate insures that all the tire pressures are equalized, which I confirmed with the vehicles tire pressure system. Once I got driving the tire pressures would diverge a bit due to usages and exposure to the sun, but never by more than three psi.

The system recalibrates itself after you drive at +30mph for a few miles. I wonder if it would recalibrate and turn off the warning after lowering all pressures to the same value.

That's a good question. When I took the tires down to 18psi I was off-road for the better part of eight hours but I certainly never drove over 30mph for 15 minutes straight or for even one full mile. The old Mojave Road has too many rocks, ruts, and whoop-dee-doos for that.

I don't think I would want to drive 30 mph on tires that low for any length of time, especially in the desert heat.

Well after using those Pirellis ATRs... which as we all know are really street tires, lol... for the last 14 months and 21K miles I finally ponied up for a set of BFGoodrich KO2's.... for the driving I do here in West Texas and New Mexico I always find myself on sharp rocks and sure enough this weekend I shredded a tire ...ugh!

I promptly headed over to my local Discount Tire and ordered the BroncoSportForum recommended (hehehe) 245x65x17s for my non-modified Badlands...

These tires really do fill out those wheel wells and "I finally feel like a man... a merman..." (sorry couldn't resist the Zoolander reference...) ! hahaha....Here's a pic just before I shredded my tire and one yesterday after my install.

@NEFKANO thank you for your business! We appreciate your support. The truck looks ultra rugged now that you have BFG's on her. The RWL gives it the added touch. :like:

I've had KO2's (and prior versions) on my trucks and Jeep for years. The best all around tire for on and off road. They last, traction is great off road and I've only had two flats in 30 years. Only downside is the price. I've been a Discount Tire customer for over 40 years.
