How to disconnect driver's side manual push/pull door lock?

I bought my 2025 BSBL 5 weeks ago. When my daughter parks on a steep hill the door slams shut and her purse, keys, and phone have already been locked inside on four occasions. She then needs to borrow a phone to have me unlock it via FordPass and she's really starting to hate the vehicle!

I'm sure it's related to the push/pull lock above the interior door handle (please see the attached photo), as mentioned at the end of the "Driver door randomly locks" thread. The lock is perfectly positioned to be activated when opening the door, so i can't blame her for getting locked out.

Could anyone provide any suggestions for disabling this lock without tearing the door apart? (Please don't suggest something like "she should take her purse with her when she gets out of the vehicle" as that would not be helpful.)

‘21-‘24 models have a Sync setting that controls locking all doors or only the drivers door. That setting might be available on Sync 4 used in ‘25+ Bronco Sports. If so, try setting to Lock only Drivers Door if that’s an available selection. That way she could get into the vehicle using one of the other 3 (non-driver) doors.

what is abit odd is all Bronco Sports ‘21+ will not lock doors when the keyfob is inside the vehicle (the doors will lock momentarily then the doors will automatically unlock and the horn will beep). If that is not occurring, make sure the keyfob is not inside an RFID protected area such as an RFID pouch or RFID purse.

Does her Bronco Sport use a keyfob or a physical metal key?

Also, there are many reports and threads of “Driver door randomly locks" however there is always an explanation as it’s not random - generally has been operator error such as what you described in your OP

it would help if your ‘25 had the exterior drivers door keypad which I’m pretty sure was not available on your model as Ford discontinued the feature (and is now bringing it back on certain Ford models). Having the keypad is a useful feature.

most vehicles wont lock with the key inside ? sorry if I misunderstood the situation ? also it should have unlocked when you grabbed the handle ? This makes me want to do a test while second key is handy ( far enough away not to interfere )

I had the dealer add the touch keypad to my 25BL. It's a crappy little stick on that must be programmed by the dealer - but it works. 25 keypad is not the same as 21-24 as the whole lock frequency/technology changed in 25

Teach her to never exit the vehicle without keys in hand; it is a good habit no matter where one is. Leaving the house or apartment? Don't do it without keys in hand.

The vehicle uses a key fob rather than a key and it is not in an RFID blocking case.

All doors lock once you reach a certain speed (I don't know many women who would want to override this security feature). Pulling the driver's interior handle only unlocks the driver's side door, so she can't get in one of the non-driver doors.

You are correct, if you leave the fob in the car the exterior door handle locking option, the lines on the door handle, is disabled. However, if you leave the fob in the car and accidentally activate the interior push/pull lock when pulling the interior door handle, the fob can be locked in the vehicle. (Please leave the window open when testing so you don't have to get another fob to unlock the vehicle.)

Agreed about the exterior key pad. My wife loved it on her town car. Unfortunately, as you pointed out, Ford doesn't offer the b?? pillar keypad on the 25s and the stick on keypad is FUGLY!

To replicate the behavior please use the interior push/pull lever in your testing.

That’s correct - the doors lock at a low speed - on ‘21-‘24 and probably ‘25+ that feature can be disabled but there is no need and that’s not what is causing the issue she is having

Thanks for the suggestion!

I suggested that after the second time she was locked out. It's so fugly even my daughter doesn't want me to get it. In addition, I understand the battery only lasts about 3 years, since it's no longer wired into the vehicle, and the battery is non-replaceable. (Is this more of the subscription mentality the automakers have been pursuing?)

It's probably the cheapest and quickest cure, but there's always the smart watch option. Google AI says both Apple and Android support the Ford Pass unlock the vehicle option.
