How to disconnect driver's side manual push/pull door lock?

There is a setting on ‘21-‘24 models to “Automatically unlocks all doors when you reach speeds lower than 12.4 MPH (20 km/h) and come to a stop, turn the ignition off and open the driver door.”

On the 2025 look for settings similar to these:

You can activate the auto unlock feature, that will unlock all doors, so that if the drivers manual lock button is pressed, the others should still be unlocked.

OK,now I get it. Never knew that was there. So not to sound more stupid, Why ? I have guesses but ... I'll just say why. Forgive my ignorance, my last daily driver was my 2006 F150 which incidentally, had a keypad but the dealer ( used )couldnt tell me the code. Bit me in the butt once, wife had to drive 45 minutes with spare key.

That’s correct - the doors lock at a low speed - on ‘21-‘24 and probably ‘25+ that feature can be disabled but there is no need and that’s not what is causing the issue she is having

some report that exiting the vehicle with the engine running and leaving the key inside will “auto-lock” but from your post I don’t think that is happening and even if it was there likely is a setting to choose all doors lock or drivers door only

again, if she left the keyfob inside the vehicle ( not in an RFID protected pouch or purse - the vehicle automatically unlocks ) and if the 2025 doesn’t work that way there’s an issue for the dealership to fix for free under warranty

it’s not clear from your post what the real scenario is where she is locked out (all 4 doors) and the keyfob is inside the vehicle

I believe the push/pull lock is a mechanical lock so the software settings do not apply, but I may well be wrong!

Could you please try the following to see if your vehicle responds differently than mine?
1) If you don't have an external keypad, open your driver's side window so you can't lock yourself out.
2) Place your fob in the car.
3) Open the driver's door.
4) Press the push/pull lever into the flat/locked position.
5) Close the door.
6) Check if the push/pull lock is still flat.
7) Try to open the door without another fob on you or using the external keypad.

Could you please let me know if your vehicle unlocks the push/pull lock when you close the door?

Thank you for the suggestion. When I saw the Auto Unlock in the owner's manual I thought "who would ever want to do this". In hindsight it now makes a lot of sense, since when my daughter presses the exterior lock, with the lines, it would re-lock all the doors.

I'm a little hard headed, so I would like to thank you and all of the other people who offered suggestions for all your advice and patience!!!

I had to actually double-check to see if the lock lever was even on mine. I've literally never noticed it in the year I've owned mine.

Seems stupid to include a mechanical lock, as every trim includes electric lock/unlock buttons on the front doors, and simply pulling the door handle will open the door even when locked, so it surely can't be a safety feature.

I wonder if that door handle/lock assembly was also used in other models that didn't have electric lock/unlock buttons, so it was cheaper to just throw it in.

If the key fob is left in the vehicle and the mechanical lock is utilized and put into the locked position with the door open, when you leave the vehicle and close the door the vehicle will be locked on the driver’s side.

Someone needs to observe the movements that are being made as she exits the door. Perhaps making a video?

Still, the auto unlock could prevent this issue because even is she inadvertently locks the driver door, you still have 3 other unlocked doors.

I suggested that after the second time she was locked out. It's so fugly even my daughter doesn't want me to get it. In addition, I understand the battery only lasts about 3 years, since it's no longer wired into the vehicle, and the battery is non-replaceable. (Is this more of the subscription mentality the automakers have been pursuing?)

Or the free option is, why doesn't she just back in so the door stays open instead of her fighting the gravity of the door wanting to close?

I’ve owned my BSBB for nearly a year and never noticed the mechanical lock tab on my door. I almost always lock the BS with the electronic lock on the driver door.

Back in?? Obviously you have never met my wife or my daughter. Even with the BEAUTIFUL rear camera display they are terrified of backing into parking spaces. I've been trying to convince them to do this for years!

Auto Unlock seems to be the best option for my daughter, at this time.
