I have the Ford ESP for 84,000 miles, which for my driving needs will get me to 5 years (hopefully). I looked at it specifically because this was a new model and the oldest one on the road is a 2021, so no one really knows how this particular configuration of parts will work in the long term. I don't disagree with anyone else's thoughts on just socking the money away as well - I think it depends on your particular set of circumstances.

The Bronco Sport is built on Ford's C2 platform, which has been in production since 2018. Yes, there are a few features unique to the Bronco Sport, but the big ticket items most people who purchase warranties worry about (mostly drivetrain components) are common across the platform, and therefore have been in use for several years now.

That's good to know. I figure any new application could have some glitches though, and then add in COVID-challenges... that was my thought process anyway.

If I keep this vehicle, I may buy a warranty for this reason. With the parts and labor challenges during COVID and the delays in delivery due to changing suppliers, I think this could be troublesome and worth the peace-of-mind versus the risk.

But much to my wife’s angst, my last 8 vehicles haven’t made it a year so ……..

Sounds we all have a lot in common! Too many vehicles and the other half not so happy about our vices!

Historically I've driven about 8k miles per year. Was thinking of purchasing the Ford Extended Warranty for 5 years / 48k miles (would cover me for 5 years) at which point I'd probably trade in for a new car. This is only $715 which kind of seems like a no brainer but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with getting repairs with Ford's extended warranties and/or if any issues generally occur with this extra mileage from 32.5k to 48k that I'll be adding. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I definitely believe in extended warranty service. I recently purchased Bronco Sport Big Bend with an extended warranty thru 2030. Labor cost here in Florida now exceed $220 per hour . The extended warranty includes rental car service which is important to me because not every dealer extends loaner car service. The warranties are available up until the end of your 3 year warranty ends but if you lock in todays pricing it will seem a bargain in three years. Everyone is different and many of you are experienced at parts replacement
but many of us do not have the expertise or tools to properly do the job. P.S. I am glad I waited till the 2023 model year , I,ve read so many of you praising your rides and I,m getting 28 plus mpg. One last thing
on the Pro Contitact tires what are most of you running at tire pressure , I set mine to 40, tire reads up to 51 max?

With the $1650 cost of my PremiumCare warranty, 7 year 75K miles, $50 deductible, is pretty much a bumper to bumper warranty, less wear items. It won't take much to recoup the cost with any drive train or electronic problems.

The house may win, or I will. Piece of mind is a major factor for my decision.

A song just came to mind...

If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn
I could arm a town the size of Abilene
Don't you push me, baby, because I'm moanin' low
And you know I'm only in it for the gold

All that I am asking for is ten gold dollars
And I could pay you back with one good hand
You can look around about the wide world over
And you'll never find another honest man

Last fair deal in the country
Last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is, baby
Before you let my deal go down
Go down

Don't you push me, baby, 'cause I'm moanin' low
And I know a little something you won't ever know
Don't you touch hard liquor, just a cup of cold coffee
Gonna get up in the morning and go

Last fair deal in the country
Last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is, baby
Before you let my deal go down
Go down

Everybody's braggin' and drinking that wine
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Come to daddy on the inside straight
Well, I got no chance of losing this time
Well, I got no chance of losing this time
Well, I no chance of losing this time

With the Ford Extended warranty you can go to any Ford dealer in the country and the repair should be seamless. No third parties involved. From a customer perspective it feels no different than a warranty repair other than the deductible. Even simple things like software updates are usually covered by the extended warranty once you are out of the initial 3 year warranty. Many times service bulletins are issued where unless the customer is still in warranty they will have to pay to have the service performed. Additionally if you ever have an issue where you believe something should be covered by the extended warranty and the dealer tells you otherwise, Ford Protect is very easy to contact. ( I had this happen). Ford Protect went back to the dealer to advise them it was a covered issue. I think at $700 it is a no brainer. There is no such thing as an inexpensive repair.

Read, read, and then re-read ALL the print of these types of contracts. I'd want to be darn sure as to what is covered, and when (some have limited coverage for the first year).

I agree with a lot of schools of thought in this thread. When you can buy a warranty that retails for $6000+ for $3000, it drastically changes the economics. Obviously at the end of the day this is insurance and Ford isn't selling the plans at $2500 to Granger or others to lose money, Ford expects to make money, but if you do encounter issues it can verrrrry quickly pay for itself.

I paid $2985 for my extended warranty, 10 year/100k miles, any Ford dealer in North America will honor it, there's no issues with having to preauthorize repairs or submit claims manually and wait to get paid back like a third party warranty. I have rental car coverage and I have lighting (incl. headlamps) coverage -after a deer hit my Bronco Sport, I found out a single headlamp alone (forgetting labor) costs $1200+.

In the almost eight years I owned my 2015 Ford Fusion, my extended warranty (not Ford Protect) was a money loser... but the Fusion, particularly in the 2.0L engine, was an unusually reliable car. The most reliable in Ford's lineup that year and above average compared to the overall market. And cars have gotten increasingly complex with more sensors, reprogramming, etc...

One factor to consider is that Ford is in a unique position, at least on acquisition price, because they can force less time and a lower rate for warranty work. For their own parts, they also have a lower price. That headlight that Ford may be pricing at $1200 may have an internal cost of $500... it's still worth $1200 to you if it goes out and needs replacement, but Ford's economics on the actual repair cost can be better.

With all this worry about something happening to a BS, I may simply trade it in about a month prior to the 36 Month, 36K mile factory warranty.

Good idea! Then buy another one.
