Wife just bought a 2024 Outer Banks. the day after taking delivery the check engine light came on, assuming it was a minor thing we dropped it off at a Ford dealership (not the one we bought it from but one much closer). we were told a stone must have popped up on the road and put a hole in the Evap canister and therefore was not covered under warranty. So the Bronco with the "Goes Over Any Terrain" dial can be taken out by a stone on the highway. I see why they dropped the 'Built Ford Tough' slogan. so if it happens to you the cost for the repair is $995.00. plus the $440.00 for the aftermarket shields that should have come on the vehicle. I have seen other posts about his in other places, seems like a pretty shabby design on Fords part.

that's ridiculous. i would call up the dealer you bought it from and figure that out, why the hell isn't that warranty? our warranty covers everything besides tires.

any pictures of damaged area or link to shields?

the selling dealer said once you drive it over the curb any 'damage' is on us to repair which I would be ok with it if we were off roading but who designs a vehicle without protecting vital components from stones on the road? no photos and Ford Customer Service was also no help. I have been told to shop at jcroffroad.com.com

I would not pay; I would be speaking with the regional service manager for assistance on getting this covered under warranty. In no way should reasonable debris on the road cause such damage that costs me that amount.

If you pay, they win.

Thanks, the vehicle is already repaired. picking it up after work. I have seen where others have had the same problem. I'm going to pay the bill, order the plates and write it off to experience.

them saying this is what worries me. was that their wording? sounds like they took advantage of you guys by knowing something was wrong already. did you see actual damage or just taking their word for it?

i wouldnt stand for it sounds like they knew what they were doing.

apparently a common problem. Here is a video of someone replacing their Evap canister on a big bend. Even though his was damaged it looks like there is a cover over it so is it just really bad luck? How does stone/rock hit is with the cover on? Also in the video I think he mentions going off road but if this happened while just normal highway driving is it possible insurance would cover the repair since a rock came up from the road? I get it that even if insurance would cover the repair might still not be worth involving them.

Yeah, these rigs are great in the snow. On rock, mud, or even a rutted road, there are lots of parts that are vulnerable. Badlands come with a carpet cover and skid plate over the evap canister, and I ripped the carpet the first time I went off road. Without the skid, I'd have lost the evap canister. I put a skid plate on the driver's side to cover the gas lines that go to the cannister. I've also ordered a skid plate for the catalytic converter and added a 1-1/2" lift. I'll go with taller tires when my Falkens wear out.

It's the same for any damage caused when driving. It's not a part failure, it was damaged while driving. If a rock comes through the windshield, they don't cover it. If you hit a deer while driving (on or off the road) they wont cover the damage. I get that the felt "body armor" is a bit of a stretch, but this was just a case of bad luck IMO.

Definitely bad luck if it happened as an accident. I just don’t trust dealerships. I would have inspected the underside of the vehicle myself before ever dropping it off at a dealership.

I would also definitely talk to management to get it warrantied. It’s a bad design and unacceptable to have a car for a day and have an issue like that.
