I recently moved to Colorado and am frequently fly fishing. My rod just barely fits in my car and bends so I decided on a rod vault. Didn’t want to spend the $ for a name brand so I made this out of Sch 40 PVC and an ammo can.
It’s held up well and hardly wiggles on the hwy!

I love PVC.....If you had time and money, and a roll or two of duct tape, I'd think you could build a house with the stuff!

Cool idea, thanks for sharing it.

How about some other PVC ideas?

Agreed! I’ll have to dwell on that one. Might use it somehow combined with some sort of plastic/wood for an inside frame for more storage.

Feel free to shoot a message if you need any tips. There's two videos on YouTube that are guides on how to do this. I glanced at them, then tried to do my own thing.

Looks great - curious as to how you attached the ammo can. Would assume you drilled a clearance hole in the can for the PVC and capped the pipe inside the can....

I made one for a two piece spinning rod back in 2007 for a trip to Maine during a bear hunting trip , to do a little fishing after hunting , I've been trying to find it for two weeks , going to Alaska in August, can't remember where I put that dang thing .

I hope you've found it by now. August and Alaska are coming soon.
At this point I've driven another 3,500-4,000 miles and the rod holder has held up so well. I've gotten a lot of compliments and they're shocked when I mention how cheap it was to make.
