From the recall 24S24 …
It will improve detection of …
I think it’s working far better after Recall 24S24. And the recall description says “improved” not “100% fixed”. Maybe semantics but words matter and recall 24s24 I can see is better from my primitive voltage monitor. I’m guessing most owners never experience a failure but for the ones who do, it can be “catastrophic” in that the vehicle dies while driving (and may not restart). So on that point I agree it’s not good for those owners.

And I haven’t enabled Auto Start Stop since January as I no longer trust it. Also now I have a new AGM Battery.

Just had my battery die with no warning after 3.5 years. Not entirely unexpected at that date, but it was completely without warning, and the car seemed to think the battery was fine (i.e. auto-start had been working fine, entertainment system stayed on after shutting off the car, as it normally does, etc).

Thankfully I happened to be at home. Had just driven back (with auto-start functioning normally and the engine shutting off very quickly at stops acting like the battery was full). An hour later I went to run an errand and it wouldn't start and went very "glitchy". Reading the error codes on the OBD port indicated a ton of low battery voltage errors. I tried charging the battery, and while it (far too quickly) went up to "100%" on the charger, the engine still wouldn't crank afterwards. Jumping worked, though.

I haven't had the recall yet (scheduled soon), but I can definitely see how it could have cut off during normal auto-start-stop and not been able to restart, though.

Replaced the OEM lead-acid battery with an AGM. Will get the recall software update soon. Hopefully the update + new battery lasts longer!

Regardless, I was very happy to have one of the little jumpstarter lithium battery packs in the car. I think those are a must for me form now on. I'm ordering a second one for the other car too.

Resting battery voltage before & after the recall:

1) Before, it was about 12.60 to 12.64 volts.
2) After, it is 12.65 to 12.71 volts.

Most trips were short, ~12 miles r/t, mostly highway, auto stop/start turned off.

Longer trips did not seem to make any difference.

this link has a pic of battery voltage displayed in the Engineering Test Mode

Very cool!

I'll have to try it on ours (also a 2022 Badlands).

Does your BL have any optional packages? The reason I ask is that I see the "35 MPH"" speed limit sign in Engineering Test Mode, which, IIRC, is part of an optional package. Ours only has the tow package and roof cross bars, otherwise it's a base BL.

That 35 MPH is from the optional Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package.. it’s the speed sign recognition icon which I have set to flash when I exceed the posted speed by 3 mph or more…

I don’t use the Intelligent adaptive cruise control that adjusts speed based on speed sign recognition. Intelligent adaptive cruise control for me is too dangerous to leave enabled due to things like posted school zones etc - I prefer to adjust my speed when I see an applicable speed sign however the adaptive cruise aspect is a great feature so that portion is enabled.

Sounds good. If we had to drive in stop-and-go traffic we probably would have gotten the adaptive cruise also. As it was/is, the base Badlands fit the bill.

I wasn't clear in my last post. What I'm wondering is -- is the Engineering Test Mode (ETM) available in all Badlands models, regardless of the existence of any optional packages (like Co-Pilot360 Assist+)?

The reason I asked is that when I saw the speed limit sign, I suspected you might have Co-Pilot360 Assist+ (which our Badlands doesn't have) and I was thinking that package might be required to access ETM.

Yes you are correct my Badlands does have Co-Pilot360 Assist+ and the speed limit sign has only to do with Co-Pilot360 Assist+ and nothing to do with ETM.

I do not know which Bronco Sport model years support ETM and if specific Packages are needed to use ETM.

ETM works on my 2022 Badlands and I do have the Premium package.

I do know we could not use the known steps to enter ETM on a 2024 Big Bend Base model.

I kinda doubt ETM depends on specific Packages but it does appear that in the one case of the 2024 model year listed above, ETM is not supported.

Try ETM on your Badlands and post what happens ok

OK, I tried steps 1 &2 from your post #32 in the "Using ETM" thread:

Engineering Test Mode

"1. Hold the "OK" button on your steering wheel and start the car.
2. Hold the button until you see "Engineering Test Mode" in the center display (between speedo and tach), then release the "OK" button."

No luck.

I also tried the method described in the video posted on that page:

Trick - Fords Engineering Test Mode:

It is the same procedure except the tech says there's no need to start the engine -- just turn the ignition on.

No joy.

Both methods produced the same result:

First, while still holding "OK", I saw the display change to what I hoped was ETM, but then it was immediately overlayed with warning messages like, " Hill Start Assist Not Available." I waited a while longer, then released "OK" and depressed it again 3-4 times to clear each of the warning messages.

Then what I saw was 4 screens -- Avg fuel mileage; Trip #1 fuel economy; Tire pressure, and the frequency the radio is tuned to. That's all.

Just curious… do you have a 22 Badlands without the Premium Package? Or you have the Premium Package and just no CO-PILOT360 ASSIST+?

OK, I tried steps 1 &2 from your post #32 in the "Using ETM" thread:

Here is the maverick article

“To access it, you hold down the OK button on the steering wheel and start the engine at the same time. Keep holding the OK button until “ET” shows up on the dash in green letters. Some owners report having to click the seatbelt and lock the doors in order for it to show up.”

OK, I tried steps 1 &2 from your post #32 in the "Using ETM" thread:
Here is another incantation …

1. Start with the engine off, close the door,
wait 30+ seconds until all dash lights,
interior lights, and exterior lights are off.

2. Press and hold OK Button on the steering wheel and don't release it yet.

3. Push Start Button only (no brake pedal) to
turn on Accessory Mode.

4. Once the message "Full Accessory Power Active" appears, release the OK button, then quickly press the brake pedal and turn the engine on.

5. Engineering Test Mode appears instantly.

From post #126 (my reply to you):

"Does your BL have any optional packages? The reason I ask is that I see the "35 MPH"" speed limit sign in Engineering Test Mode, which, IIRC, is part of an optional package. Ours only has the tow package and roof cross bars, otherwise it's a base BL."

We drove the salesman crazy. He tried desperately to get us to have the Badlands gold-plated, but we insisted that the cactus grey paint was fine.

Seriously, neither of us were very interested in any of the features in the packages, but he kept pushing them. "Only chumps and losers do not order everything I recommend!" For us anyway, they seemed way overpriced. For buyers who really want most/all of what's included it's probably worth it but not in our situation.

The Badlands replaced my wife's '97 RAV4, so it was primarily up to her. She and I both thought the tow package and the cross bars would be useful, so we got those. She wanted the fender flares, but in another case of attempted stealership fraud, we were told that the price did NOT include installation, although Ford's website clearly said it did. Installation cost was said to be a huge mystery! The body shop had supposedly never worked with the fender flares before, so we would have been on the hook for whatever they wanted to charge. Needless to say, we deleted them. That elicited a very concerned/puzzled look from the salesman -- as if we were making some huge mistake.

Anyway, maybe our lowly base Badlands does not have ETM? :frown:

I don’t know why your 2022 Badlands does not have the ETM feature while my 2022 Badlands does.

The apparent differences between mine and yours .. is mine has:

CO-PILOT360 ASSIST+
The 2022 variant of the Premium Package.

Maybe @Mark S. has an idea why ETM does not work on your 2022 Badlands?
