Until I got turbo's, I used synthetic oil and changed my oil once a year whether it needed it or not. My boss used to run 25,000 miles before changing oil. No problems. I'm not convinced that with modern oils it is necessary to change the oil often. I've read that turbos run dirty, so I'm changing oil more often these days, but stilll go at least 5000 miles between changes.

I was told once that the worst thing you can do to an engine is start it up and turn it off before it has warmed up. I never do that.
I think changing modern oils at short intervals is a waste of money. I've been changing oil when the vehicle tells me to since the early 2000s and haven't hadn't had any issues, even in diesel trucks.

If you want your original factory warranty to stay in effect, change the oil at least once a year or when the indicator goes on based upon miles.
Changing the oil on a regular basis is the cheapest insurance you can buy for a reasonable engine lift. Personally, I would change at a minimum every 5,000 miles.
Any oil that meets the Ford spec should be adequate. WalMart SuperTech is a low priced oil that meets the requirements.

How many members change the oil themselves. 6.6 quarts, correct?

I change mine with full synthetic. 6.6 quarts is correct for models with the 1.5L and phenolic (or whatever its made of) oil pan. Earlier models (21-mid 22?) were less than that. I also change the plastic drain plug with o-ring as well. Cheers!

I have oil changed and tire rotations done at 5,000 miles all the time and will continue with the 2025 XLT AWD Maverick I have now with the 2.0 EB in it [no longer have the 2023 BS BB] but I visit this site every night. Good to know about the Walmart Super Tech Oil I have used it in My 89 Mustang with a 466 BBF a few times and will continue to use it for the price and quality.

The vehicle is programmed to show the warning earlier for the intial oil change (break-in change). After you reset it will display when you reach the programmed 9-10K limit. I was curious as to how well my oil was holding up so I had it tested. I had two Blackstone Lab tests done on two previous oil changes, one using Amsoil SS and the other using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I sent in samples after running above 10K. Both tests came back with very good comments on the oil, the remaining life, particulates and chemical info included. You can find the results if you search for Blackstone Oil Test. My results will vary with someone else's as there are so many varibles to consider. Oil is the life blood of any engine, don't ignore maintenance or it will cost you in the long run. Good luck

V8LThe vehicle is programmed to show the warning earlier for the intial oil change (break-in change).

Can you cite a source for this. In my limited experience, the warning has been based on elapsed time in every case. A 12 month max between changes, no matter the mileage accumulated, and in my case, way under 10k annually.

Thanks, have You posted pictures of Your Notch on here before?
No, I have not. It's not much to look at now. I bought the car for a really good price some years ago. Previous owner did some hack-job to the wiring harness to try to adapt the alternator off of an old Chevy 1500 into it to power an aftermarket sound system and fried the ECU. I replaced the hardness from the firewall forward, ECU and put an OEM alternator and got it running, but it's been sitting for a while now under a car cover. I have a fully built 347 stroker and a 6-speed Tremec from a newer Mustang for it and also want to convert it to 5-lug and rear disk. I want a fuel injected car with full a/c and power steering that I can drive daily if I wanted to for this project. I want my son to be able to drive it when he turns 16. Unfortunately, lack of time and disposable income (and getting scammed out of $7300 I paid someone to start the restoration project) have forced me to put the project on hold......for now.

I am the third owner, super clean Florida car, but needs a lot of work to be truly road-worthy. My first car when I was 16 was a fox body, and this is my 11th Mustang; all fox bodies except for a 2005 and a 2013 GT I also owned.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread! I can talk Stangs all day long!
