Didn’t know just where to post this, so dropped it here..

Just read this in the Wall Street Journal:
A few months after buying his new Volvo a guy noticed his main display screen going blank and the backup camera would quit working. The car was also screeching in reverse. Does any of this sound familiar?
The big part of the story was that, like thousands of others, he was “under water” on his car — trade in vale was @ $20,000 - $24,000 on a car he’d just paid @ $50,000 for new.
It seems Ford’s not the only one having problems with quality control; fortunately I don’t think any of us has dropped $50,000 on a Bronco Sport — yet..

Sigh....my 2025 BS Badlands might be getting pretty damn close to that amount after I'm done tweaking it. MSRP as ordered is a little over $44K now. ?

If I include sales tax, title and licensing fees (aka Doc fees), 10 year/100k mile ESP, and disregard my trade-in, my 2024 Badlands was 48K USD. And thas was without the Premium package. The dealer did add a security package which they refused to remove. They did remove the interior protection package that they supposedly added. If I further disregard my X-plan pricing, I'd hit 50K. My salesman refers to my car as my 48K Bronco Sport.

Off topic, my local dealership called me yesterday, asking If I was ready for an oil change or other service. Seems that they are desperate for customers these days, with the overall economy looking so bad.

I’m really not bragging, got in early (ordered in 2020) and dealer screwed up, not knowing how pricing would go. They sold me loaded BS for @ $38k plus tax/title w/0% financing. So I was waaay under the $50k mark (whew!)

We are also way under 50K, approx 38K. We would NEVER spend 50K for a vehicle.

If I factor in my trade I will be financing considerably less for the Bronco. My current 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited is fully paid off and I will only need to finance about half the final cost of the BS. Looking to finalize the sale with a 3 year payment plan depending on interest rate, and will never be upside down on the loan.

Of course no mfr is perfect -- far from it -- but there can be major differences in reliability.

The last time I posted the CR ratings here, I believe Ford was slightly below average. The most reliable brand (Lexus?) was twice as good as the worst, which I think was/is Chrysler.

There are always exceptions. Although Subaru has a good rep, my 2002 WRX had a bunch of recalls (once they were corrected it was reliable).

EDIT: I just checked and Lexus is #1 with a score of 79/100; Chrysler is in last place with a score of 18/100. Ouch.

IDK if it works this way, but 79/18 = Lexus is ~4.4 times more reliable than Chrysler.

(Ford scored 40/100).

No. I don’t plan on doing any major rock crawling. All I need is a capable vehicle to take me off the beaten path for some weekend camping. The Badlands fits my requirements without having to add the Sasquatch package.

I am almost 67 & my wife is almost 64, barring no problems the Bronco Sport is the last new vehicle we will buy. If we have to we will buy used. 50K+ for a new vehicle is insane.

I'm 74 and TOTALLY agree. I will be buying a new SUV next fall when the warranty is off my 2022 BSBB.
