I’ve ordered a set of RoughCountry 2 inch light pods. I have the Ford OEM cross bars.

Im wanting to mound the 2 square lights under the cross bar. One on the left and one on the right. I have 2 questions.

1. Will they be sitting too far back to be an effective light. I’m really looking for something to illuminate for backing up in really dark areas.

2. Any suggestions on how to mound them. I was simply thinking of a bolt and washers through that eye on each side. If now how?

EDIT took the advice and since I have the lights ordered some a pillar ditch light mounts. I’ll put em upfront.

Agree with Quashish. Not going to help much. Too high up and the roof is going to catch most the light.

Why not mount them to the bottom of the rear bumper?

You got me thinking about this. I’ve committed myself to mounting the 2 inch cubes to A pillar mounts now. But Rough Country makes a flush mount set that I could mount in the rear bumper. That plastic bumper wouldn’t be too hard to cut into. I might have to pick up a set of thos

The Baja Designs reverse light kit mounts to the factory tow hitch. That’s why it was asked if you had a hitch. The kit is simple. Just a bolt that runs through an existing hole in the hitch, with an L bracket on each side.

@Black Rob that's exactly where I was going. Strange they don't have that kit for sale anymore. It'll probably come back.

Morimoto also makes a strip light that mounts using the licence plate screws which I have installed. I chose this instead of the hitch kit since I don't need a ton of light like a pair of S2 would deliver but extra is always nice. And it's sleek and compact. Though it's gone up in price since I bought it.

Following this thread, I’ve been thinking about doing this. Find it’s not very bright when you back up.

Some members have reported replacing the stock reverse bulbs with LED’s with a significant improvement in rear visibility.
