Last night my wife told me she is in love with the BS Outer Banks and wants to go car shopping this weekend. I'm good with that. I'm retiring next year and will no longer have a commutes to Dallas. I did some initial checking and found the following...
  • Consumer reports downgraded the BS and no longer recommends it. In their annual survey the 'trouble spots' were Body Integrity 1/5, Brakes 1/5, and Engine Major 2/5. The rest of the categories did really well and ranked 5/5.
  • The Ford recall makes me a bit nervous.
What's your experience in repairs? Are you satisfied or has it been a money pit?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Ford has produced maybe 200,000 sports by now so there are a lot of them out there now. There are reports of problems on some of them and some of them have been lemon lawed. There are also large numbers of people with no issues.

I have had my '21 for one year now and has around 8,000 miles. Has not been back to the dealer for any problems. So far everything is working. No chips in the paint, no broken windshield, no brake noise (yet), no rattles, fit and finish inside and out is excellent, definitely a high quality look and feel to vehicle overall. Drives very tight, super strong engine, and very refined comfortable ride. It has exceeded my expectations so far.

One thing I did do was took mine on a 45 minute drive before signing to make sure it was a good runner with no issues. I drove it on back roads, stop and go, at speed on highway. I think a good test drive before signing reduces risk of getting stuck with a lemon if you are in a position to walk away which I was.

Oh, and mine has not been flagged for ANY recalls yet. Not all of them are subject to recalls.

I've got 8,200 miles on my 21 Badlands, no missing parts or recalls. Rear brakes squall sometimes when it's humid, parts on backorder like a lot of other things these days.

But this is the best vehicle I've ever owned by far........... Wouldn't trade it for anything.

With the supply chain being a mess and the recalls on the 1.5 engine's (Lower Trims), best bet is order what you want and expect a long wait for delivery (6-9 months) anyway.

Unless an hybrid version come's out in 24 and has a price around $45K or less, this will be my last vehicle and I'll drive it till the wheels fall off..........

I live in fear of the amount of time I'll spend in jail if anyone ever harms my Bronco. It's been literally perfect.

2021 BS Badlands 17600 miles, no repairs other than a tail ilight bulb, it will also most likely need a battery replacement (under warranty) since the auto start stop currently isn't working as it used too. I'll have it taken care of at the next service.

I love my 2022 Badlands! No problems and came with all the parts except for the engine cover that I don’t need anyway. I feel like I’m in a vintage Land Rover Defender except for everything works, the ride is better, and it’s less noisy! Have fun!

Love my BigBend BS, kept pace with friend’s Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, they made it look easy but I was still able to make it to the top of the pass with having to pick my lines much more carefully due to less ground clearance

First off it helps to be a Ford lover or have some nostalgic calling because you liked your friends parents Bronco back in the 70s. All Ford people know Fords for their quirks, recalls and other common issues. The BS is not a high end SUV, accept that and half of decision is already made. Personally I love my 21 OB. I've had the recall items checked, no replacement required. No issues other than regular maintenance. Phemoninal mpg which was a huge surprise because mpg wasn't why I bought it. I like the style, ride, roominess, tech and more. Ford left out a few cosmetic covers that are not even noticeable unless someone told you. I suspect other manufacturers did the same. All in all I have zero regrets buying mine.

8k miles now and no issues other then chasing down a couple of rattles. I had to replace the windshield at 2k miles, truck kicked up a rock. Consumer reports, eh antiquated. Every manufacturer has their issues. I did work at a Honda dealership years ago installing a building security system, literal pallets of bad transmissions lining the back wall. Overall cars are built very well these days. The only thing I avoid is CVT transmissions, and German manufacturers.

Just under 7k on my '21 First Edition, no recalls and no issues other than the occasional brake noise when backing up (high humidity or cold). Appointment backdated for March to have it fixed.

Low mileage since both the wife and I work from home and I absolutely love it. Living in Wisconsin where we get a lot of snow, I wish I could have bought this thing years ago as it has made any kind of travel a million times easier in bad weather.

Would probably recommend going up to Badlands for the 2.0 engine as it seems to have a lot less problems than the 1.5 from what I've read.

I did 36k on my escape with the 1.5 3pot engine. Changed oil every 5k. Not one hiccup. Granted that's one vehicle at relatively low miles. I know the old 1.5 4-cylinder in the last gen escape had issues, bad block design with the coolant passages between the cylinders. The dragon 1.5 seems to be more robust, minus some water pump leaks.

I’m right there with ScareCrow, @13,000 miles on my ā€˜21 BL and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Rear brakes squall in reverse a bit and I don’t care — it goes away. I’ve had no problems/repairs/recalls. This will be my last vehicle unless someone totals it, took out the eight year warranty!

I believe the primary reason CR downgraded Ford is because it did not respond to COVID-related supply chain issues as well as other manufacturers, making parts availability a major roadblock to getting recall and other required maintenance completed. That said, dealerships are prohibited from selling vehicles subject to a recall, so if you are just now thinking about purchasing then whatever vehicle you get will have all recall work complete, or will not be subject to any recalls.

Personally, I wouldn't allow the fact that a vehicle has been recalled concern me. A recall means the problem has been identified and a fix is available. The main concern for a new buyer should be problems that CAN'T be fixed, and long-term reliability (depending on how long you intend to keep the vehicle). So far, I'm not aware of any irreparable issues with the Bronco Sport. Further, the vehicle is based on Ford's worldwide C2 platform. With literally millions of these vehicles in operation around the world we would know if there were any widespread issues with reliability.

I would buy another Bronco Sport with confidence.
