I received a phone message from my dealer to call for an appt to get the recall done. I guess I'll wait to ensure I won't have to visit again.

There’s something about the saying Early bird gets the worm …. I don’t like software worms so am waiting for all the early adopters of recall 24S24 to report in.

No real rush for the fix for me. My BS sits a lot and is always on a battery maintainer when not used..

That’s true so I’ll revise my statement:

There’s something about the saying Early bird gets the worm …. I don’t like software worms so am waiting for all the early adopters of recall 24S24 (that do not use a battery maintainer) to report in.

My Dealer showed me the correspondence for the hold from ford (dated today). With all the different info out there whether its ready or not ready gives me pause.....I'm like some members here and would rather wait and see for when a solution is confirmed

I called my dealership last Friday to have the recall 24s24 done. The service advisor made the reservation for the next morning. He called me back an hour later to let me know his service manager had just gotten the message from Ford to put a hold on this repair. I'll just have to wait on Ford to open it up again. As an aside, a year ago we had an electrical issue with our Big Bend that turned out to be a defective instrument cluster. In that same time period there were a lot of people having other issues that were attributed to the battery. I too, thought the battery was at the heart of my problem and tried to get the AGM battery upgrade but Ford customer service said I could only get the same battery that I had under warranty, and that could only happen if the dealer said my original battery was bad. In the end, I was told by two different dealer service centers that my battery was good and not the cause of the electrical failure. I still have that original one and we're at 2 1/2 years no other issues to date (knock wood)!

And for the record I disengage the auto start/stop every time I drive as well as the auto daytime running lights.

On last Friday's Long McArthur Ford's Members only live stream, the Host affirmed that the recall hold was removed and dealers can go ahead and do the reprogramming.

9:45 AM: My local dealer just picked my car up a few minutes ago for the 24S24 recall.

Update 3:45 PM: My BSBL was returned to me this afternoon. The recall was completed.
No indication of time spent since it was a recall - no charge,
Battery SOC this morning when the car was picked up was 93%.
Battery SOC on delivery 5 and a half hours later was 63%.
I'm putting it on the Battery Maintainer overnight.

In the morning, I'm heading out shopping about 12 miles away, and after that a long "Sunday drive."
At least where I grew up in the Chicago 'burbs, one of the more pleasant summertime adventures was a Sunday drive. On occasion we went into the city, usually to Navy Pier, and bought some smoked chubs, to take home. On other drives, we'd head out westward, and around supper time, maybe treated to Prince Castle, Cock Robin, or McDonald's hamburgers. Prince Castle evolved into Cock Robin are long gone. If later in the evening, we'd stop and get frozen custard (soft serve ice cream). On other Sunday drives, we'd head to one of the county parks and have a picnic. Our family cars carried emergency picnic supplies: a small grill, bag of charcoal, starter fluid, plastic plates, silverware. You never knew when those were needed!
I forgot to add that the work order receipt did mention that the Tire sensors were retrained after the BCM and PCM were reprogrammed. The earlier post on the forum mentioned that the transmission also needs to be retrained, and that is one of the reasons for my planned Joyride on Wednesday.

From the 24S24 Procedure document RCMN-24V267-9251.pdf:
======
NOTE: Advise the customer this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a re-learning process. This re-learning process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.

I got the recall as well but based on the information you guys are reporting, I'm going to hold off. Having said that, I don't use a battery maintainer, can someone recommend one? Thanks!!

If battery charging is an issue while city driving, shutting down the start/stop I think will help.

Not sure but I think your DRL's are LED like my Badlands. If so, they have minimal drain. Having them on provides a safety buffer for the other drivers to see you. Just my 10 cents.

Both Battery Tender (BT) and Battery Minder have good reputations.

I have 4 BT units. All work well and are in constant use -- one for almost 15 years. The mfr is Deltran. They make several different models:
https://www.batterytender.com/battery-chargers

All of mine are several years old and not mfrd anymore.

You'll see the "Junior" models are intended for smaller batteries (motorcycles, etc.) But I've found that they work fine on any vehicle -- as long as the output of the BT is greater than the phantom load.

Generally speaking, the phantom current draw is not >85 mA:
https://www.continentalbattery.com/blog/the-impact-of-parasitic-draw-on-your-car-battery-s-lifespan
https://www.optimabatteries.com/experience/blog/what-is-normal-for-parasitic-draw

The BT Junior (750-800 mA) will work fine as a maintainer. If the battery is significantly discharged and you want to charge it more quickly, there are 3/4/5 amp models.

Alternatively, you could buy a BT Junior (or other model) and an ordinary battery charger.

Deltran also sells a 2/8/15 amp charger/maintainer for $100 (MSRP). If I did not already have all those BT units and several chargers, I'd strongly consider it. It seems like a nice 'all-in-one' solution:

<Later> Well, IDK what's going on. This is the link but when I go there I see "Page not found":
https://www.batterytender.com/15-amp-selectable

I hope it isn't discontinued, because for people who do not already have a maintainer and/or charger, it looked like it might be a good choice.

BTW -- they also sell Jump Starters. Just FYI, not sure about their performance:

From NOCO:

Parasitic Battery Draw
"A normal amount of parasitic draw for newer cars is between 50-milliamp to 85-milliamp current draw. A normal amount of parasitic draw for older cars is a reading less than 50-milliamp. Anything past these amounts indicates an electrical issue and should be addressed by a mechanic. Even though 85-milliamp draw may be normal for newer cars, this amount can still adversely impact the life and performance of a car battery if the car battery is not properly maintained. Therefore, it is important to maintain and charge the battery so that the charge does not drop below 12.4 Volts. Once the voltage drops below 12.4 Volts sulfation kicks in and leads to battery corrosion. To help prevent sulfation, it is beneficial to periodically charge the car battery with a car battery charger. First, you will need to determine the parasitic draw of your vehicle. You can do this by performing a parasitic draw test using a multimeter and testing for current (DC Amps)."

https://no.co/blog/parasitic-draw#:~:text=Parasitic Battery Draw,be addressed by a mechanic.

On last night's Long McArthur Ford's Members' Live YouTube, Tim Bartz (Internet Sales Manager at Long McArthur Ford in Salina KS), verified that the 24S24 recall is active and dealerships have the files to program the BCM and PCM. No indication why there was a temporary hold.
My dealer Woody Ford in Madill, OK is about 80 miles away, but they are going to have a mobile tech in OKC on Monday and will stop in Norman and do my update. Can't say enough about this small town dealer. They are a big-time fleet dealer and won't miss a sale over price. No high pressure. The oldest continuous Ford franchise in America.

Hope there is no problem with this update. I'll be in northern NM next week chasing bighorns and without cell service most ot the time. I'll have my jump box with me.
