I’m going to speculate that this will be used either in conjunction with some kind of awning attachment or with some sort of strut that will enable the use of a larger and/or heavier, rooftop tent, increasing the static load capacity by up to 330lbs.
Never thought of this but it's if that is what it will be used for it's kinda genius. Plus I think it looks a little nicer than the black plastic and has actual function.

I had wondered what you could attach there and the door still open. Maybe you nailed it. Overall, looking like a pretty good mid-cycle refresh. I'm still wondering if there is a little more clearance.

I'm not on quite onboard with the front skid plate. Functional yes, design no.

Maybe it's the contrast in colors but it looks like someone built it in their garage and slapped it on. The rear looks better. JMO

Would not have bought a Sport if the 2021s looked like that.

I already detest the amount of plastic cladding on modern cars. The refresh just added plastic over more plastic. A lot of people hate how the trailing arms look already so I don't know what guy came up with the idea to add more silver plastic to enhance the trailing arm visibility.

Cars should be adding more buttons and less screens. Step backwards on both of those things as they made a larger screen and moved functions to screen-only.

Needless redesigns just means less spare parts, both factory and junkyard, in the future.

The aftermarket options for the Sport are already pretty abysmal. Different bodies can only make that worse as companies have to double-engineer stuff.

Look at those large physical buttons and digital temp readouts below the screen! The button friendly owners will like those. I’d never turn down actual buttons and digital readouts but I did like spinning the temp dial to set a random (usually low) temperature in my ‘22.

it’s also nice that the button to start/stop the engine is relocated down and is right next to the button to disable Auto Start/Stop. That’s handy.

Can’t tell it the display is Sync 4 but I assume it is. Also shows a different CarPlay layout.
Are you being sarcastic? The row of buttons at the bottom edge of the display are for the HVAC controls. They are physically indistinguishable and one must take eyes of the road to select the desired button, if you want to turn on/off the defroster or change fan speed.
NO THANKS Ford!

I like the skid plates and tow hooks, bigger screen. The brush guard looks like it would be pretty much useless in a collision with an animal or vehicle.

I wish they would offer 245's on the BL. No R&D expense, they just buy tires and mark them up. Most dealers or even Discount Tire won't give you squat for take-offs. Las time I ordered the standard 225's since I planned to replace them. Took months to sell them on fb market place. Would like to see another inch or so clearance on the BLs as well.

Agree. But it's a done deal at this point. Would you rather have a real skid plate or not? I would. And we haven't had a close look at this one. A silver or gray color might look better with it.

Front skid plate is really ugly. I hope they do something better with the color or appearance of it. The 360 cameras are an awesome enhancement.

I'm torn on the Sync 4 12" display. On one hand, larger displays are nice. On the other hand, they have relegated all HVAC controls to areas of the touch screen. Look at the top of the screen with the time, temp, carplay button, and connected services (FordPass) reception. Look at the bottom. Those HVAC buttons are part of the screen. This means that there's no physical HVAC control or multimedia buttons with the exception of volume.

I have lived through this before, without touchscreen. In the 2013-2015 2nd gen Fusion, the Sony ("upgraded") radio had capacitive touch sensitive areas for climate and radio functions. You couldn't tell what you were pressing without looking down. In a car like the current gen BS, you can feel a volume/tune knob, and move your hand feeling the shape/icon of the buttons, and know I've moved from the volume knob, mute, play/pause, oh there's the fast forward/skip button, without looking away from the road.

Fine, you say, I have steering wheel control buttons for radio.

Work your finger from the left climate knob, driver heated seat, blank spot, fan down, oh there's fan speed up in your BS. Now try doing that on a touch screen with no tactility or feedback without looking.

This is impossible on a touchscreen approach (you HAVE to look at the screen), and I really don't like the change in that regard.

I like the all digital gauge cluster.

Many improvements, some cons. I think the impact of the loss of physical controls for key HVAC/radio items is lost on many until they experience it. I've been there.
