Additionally it has emission vape codes stating a micro leak in the exhaust. Ive replaced the spark plugs, the coils the emissions purge valve and have had the smoke test done and could not identify any actual leaks. I took it the Future Ford in Roseville CA to diagnose and a couple hours later they call to inform me that they think the problem is the transmission starting to slip. The say I need a new transmission and sent me this diagnosis:

CUSTOMER STATES THAT WHEN DRIVING AT A CONSISTANT 30 MPH CAN FEEL THE VEHICLE SURGING AND CAN SEE TACHOMETER FLUCTUATING WITH SPEE OF SURGING/CHECK AND ADVISE
VERIFIED CONCERN. SURGING COMING FROM TORQUE CONVERTER SHUDDER. WILL NEED TO REMOVE TRANS AND TEARDOWN TO POINT OF FAILURE. PRICIE INCLUDES REMOVING, DISASSEMBLING AND INSPECTING TRANSMISSION AND INCLUDES REASSEMBLING AND REINSTALLING TRANSMISSION IF ELECTED SUGGESTED WORK IS DECLINED. REASSEMBLING TRANSMISSION AFTER DISSASSEMBLY MAY CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO PERFORM DIFFERENTLY TO THE EXTENT OF NO ENGAGEMENT-QUOTED PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE PARTS
REPLACEMENT TRANMISSION WITH COOLER BYPASS VALVE

The final quote is $16,000! A full transmission replacement cost $16000??? My BS has 95000 on it and has been faithfully serviced through its high-use but short life. It is fully paid for, 3 years old and it needs that much money to fix already. Im not too familiar with the transmission replacement world but 16000 seems absolutely absurd. Does this sound like even the right ballpark monetarily? I think that I will be trading it in for something depressing but will reliably get me through my commute. Any advice out there that may help me decide the best path forward?

Yep, I took this into the dealership on Monday. I’ve asked them to give me a trade-in quote but I’m not sure how I’ll be able to believe any offers they give are reasonable

You are definitely not the first to complain about transmission failure. However, I’ve seen replacement costs of approx 9k but 16k is absurd.

I say trade it in. At 95,000 miles what else is going to go wrong even if you repair/replace the transmission. A quick check of trade in appraisal is about $14,700. This is assuming the BS does not have a lot of extras and in average condition and not including the repair. Rough condition is only $600 lower. Also if you are leaning towards repair/replacement I would definitely get additional quotes and opinions including another Ford dealership. Also looking at your post the Dealer is not even guaranteeing that the transmission would work properly after tearing it down. If Dealer said issue is in the Torque Converter why are they not starting with just that and how much is it to replace the Torque Converter or is that not an option because they really are not sure what the issue is.

REPLACEMENT TRANMISSION WITH COOLER BYPASS VALVE $9,953.17

$4.095.00 for the work to tear down the transmission which I am not sure is needed and doesn’t include parts anyway.

Did they quote you just the total price to install a new transmission including new torque converter (without doing any more diagnostics) and tell you the warranty on that work?

The dealership seems to get very good reviews, mostly is for car buying but saw a few reviews for service. Only found one BBB review for service which was a bad review. You may want to check the dealerships reviews, and check BBB and dealerrater (“https://www.dealerrater.com/“).

This happened to me and it was transmission… torque converters all needed to be replaced.

I'd go to an independent shop for the repair and trade it in or sell it to Carvana, Carmax etc.

Looks like double dipping to me.

A transmission out of a low mileage wreck should cost $1000.00 to $1,500 (most in the $1000 range) plus labor to install should be under $1500 at an independent shop. Rancho Cordova is home to some of the largest recycle yards in the Country.

You probably have. PCM and BCM recall. After 2 software updates to wife's now 3rd "SAFETY" RECALL...her Outer Banks now has symptoms. They told us new transmission for 9000 in a Tennessee dealer. We volunterily surrendered to her finance company stopping all payments on an unsafe pile of Junk! FORD DOES NOTHING to resolve almost 1/2 million recalls. 456,000 Bronco Sports and Maveriks. 23,000 Maveriks, the rest are ALL Bronco Sports! I bet your BL vin# is one of them. It effects 2021-2023 models. This pile of metal and plastic should never have left the assembly lines! We got rid of it and bought my wife a nice Jeep Compass Latitude AWD/4WD!

For the Bronco Sport, I believe the ~1/2 million recalls are for recall 24S24 BCM Calibration and PCM Calibration which are getting done for free to owners.
