The 3 cylinder motor has a “growl” (similar to a small diesel engine), that’s more pronounced when not at full operating temperature. In colder weather , suggest to let it warm up for a few minutes before driving away. In really-really cold weather -15c/ 5F … plug It into the block heater overnight If you have one installed.
I agree about the growl when the engine is very cold.

Ours taps if it doesn't warm up enough in the winter. We get wicked awesome cold snaps here.

Currently have a 2024 Outer Banks with the 1.5L engine. On cold start up (40 degrees or less) there is a considerable engine tap that lasts until the engine warms up (about 10 minutes) and then quiets down to normal engine sounds. Is this normal?
Normal, high pressure fuel pump is quite noisey.

Being that I do not experience this noise, this thread inspired me to open up the hood to look out of curiosity. I found that my coolant level is extremely low… Bringing it up to my dealer tomorrow morning to have it looked at. Praying that it isn’t a water pump or anything ??

Something everyone should do now and then.
Good news no leak detected everything looked great! Pressure test showed no issues luckily. They even test drove it to make sure they didn’t smell anything or see anything weird and nothing came up and coolant level stayed the same after the drive. He said it actually wasn’t even low quite yet before they topped it off but they added a little anyways to be safe.

Normal for a direct injection application.

What about squelches and squeals though?
Wife, husband, girl or boy friend, or kids, each have separate ways to handle the "noise.".
