My only concern (and if mat never happen) is down the road they fail and need replacing. But again, they seem like quality items and I imagine they should last fairly longI was thinking of removing it, one less thing to rattle around down the road
I'll definitely keep it around. Just ordered a set...these forums are gonna make me spend a lot of money lolMy only concern (and if mat never happen) is down the road they fail and need replacing. But again, they seem like quality items and I imagine they should last fairly long
Be careful. The sheet metal on modern cars is pretty thin. I watched my neighbor put two palm-shaped dents in the hood of his car pushing it closed. It doesn't hurt a thing to give it a good shove on the way down and let momentum do the work for you. If it doesn't fully latch I would not push down on it.I actually find it easier. When I went to pick my BB up I couldn't get it closed at first unless I dropped. Now I just give it good push down as it comes down and it closes fine
Yeah that's what i meant, give a little extra on the way down. I don't latch and then push it closedBe careful. The sheet metal on modern cars is pretty thin. Yes. Leave it in place as you will no longer need the original.Does the old prop rod just remain in place, no need to remove?
Which one should you get Plus or Elite? Difference?
Anyone else have this problem? Is the Elite better?Going to back-pedal my "outstanding" rating...I'll now recommend against them.
When I installed these, I had some trouble aligning the ball connector on the driver side...it fit the rectangular hole, but screw-on nut that wedges the ball connector between an open space in the hood above, and the sheet metal below it, I found just barely wedges itself on the sheet metal...any deviation of its position during the tightening process (which you can't see since because it's on the above side of the hood in a hollowed out space) and it will come out of proper seating.
A few days ago, I heard a "pop" sound come from that area, thought nothing of it, perhaps a rock in the fender well. When I opened the hood, the ball fastener to the hood had worked loose (probably from normal driving vibration), detached from the hood, and the strut was wedged against the fender well (ball and socket joint in tact).
I detached the ball and socket from each other and remounted the ball fastener, this time, watching alignment oh so carefully. All seemed to go well....that is until I started to tighten the ball fastener "nut", which is actually part of the ball piece. The "nut" started to strip and round-off; very soft metal, not a lot of force applied. You can see this if you look closely at the picture. Just FYI, I have excellent quality tools and used the correct socket and wrench per the instructions.
All-in-all, I question the quality now of this kit, and wonder if a failure could hurt someone. I will likely remove mine and I'm sorry that I cannot recommend it now.
