FDE was introduced in January of last year. Like each version of Sync before it, it’s model-specific. As it relates to the BS, I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Ford Digital Experience is not Android Auto.

Ford was the first major manufacturer to address using the driver’s device in the vehicle by introducing SYNC. The first versions were designed by Microsoft. However, after a few years the systems were not performing as designed and became a major issue for Ford.

SYNC 3 was designed using a QNX system. Formerly Blackberry. This system was accepted much better by the Ford owner.

The challenge for every manufacturer is keeping up with technology. Ford has committed to supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford Digital Experience operates on a Google designed platform that also runs some Android phone apps. This is not Android Auto. The system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You toggle back and forth.

GM (BEVs), Tesla, Rivian do not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These manufacturers see an opportunity to monetize the in-car experience by charging a subscription fee for features. This may be the future with most manufacturers. Ford is charging a fee for Connected Navigation.

Not interested. IMHO what is needed is not more or higher tech but a return to knobs& buttons not more/bigger touch screens which are a huge distraction to the driver. When I replaced the factory radio in my 05 F150 the new one is all touch screen which I am NOT a fan of, but I could not find an aftermarket one with knobs & buttons.
