My 2007 Mercury Mariner is factory rated for a Max of 3501 LBS., so for me, that's my minimum for the Sport.

Just for a reference... the Honda Pilot & Passport AWD's are rated for 5000 LBS., so to be competitive with what I "think" will be a similar sized competitor, hopefully the Sport will have a similar rating.

Jeep Cherokee is also 4500lbs with its towing package. So yes I think 5000lbs SHOULD be the ball park for the towing package. I’ll be OK with 4000 but I think ford needs to be very aggressive in its towing abilities

however the C2 platform cousin Escape only has a max of 3500 as does the Edge.

Explorer has 5600 but that’s with its 400lbft motor.

Apples to apples, would be the Honda CR-V: 1500lbs, I think the CVT trans is probably the limiting factor. 5 X 8 single axle trailer for towing an ADV & dual sport bikes- 1800lb towing is fine fo me.

Most of the smaller SUVs have CVT or just a really weak <2.0L motor.

but yes most only have 1500-2000lb of towing. But some like the Cherokee pushes 4000lb I think ford definitely needs to fit in there some where over 3000 under 4500

I would guess the Sport, being derived from the C2 Escape platform, will have a slightly less than 3500 lb towing, slightly more GCWR, owing (hopefully) to heavier "built very rugged" vehicle components.

I don’t plan to tow anything, but I would like a factory installed 2” rear hitch carrier so I could attach a bike rack.

2019 Honda Passport and Pilot (properly equipped) have a 5000lbs. towing rating.

I hope that FoMoCo doesn't let Honda beat them in this category.......

From the recent info on the Bronco Sport, it can be ordered with a class 2 towing hitch. 3500 lbs max.

The towing capacity for the Sport should be between 2000 and 3500 lbs, otherwise a class 2 hitch would not be necessary. Even at 2000 lbs, this is significantly better than the Honda CRV which is a competitor.

Both the Honda Passport and Pilot are considerably larger. The regular Bronco should compete with them, towingwise, not the Bronco Sport.

Whether or not FoMoCo considers the Passport or Pilot a competitor or not to the Sport is their choice, but FoMoCo needs to realize that they are a factor in my (and several others) buying decisions as the Passport is the same size as my 2007 Mercury Mariner which I'd be replacing.

Also, not everyone wants a vehicle with a CVT.

My current 13 year old vehicle has a better towing rating with 13 year old technology....... smh.....

If Ford would offer the 2.3 Ltd engine just like the Ranger towing could top 7000 lbs

This.
I wonder what the chances are of the 2.3L becoming an option in 2022 or so....

I also, would like to see a higher tow capacity. 2000 lbs is just too low. If it can get closer to the Cherokee, say #3000, that would be great. Actually, I would settle for #2500 in the base or big ben models, every 500 lbs counts... I tow a utility trailer so it depends on what i am hauling, and I often don't know how much it weighs due to wet vs dry loam, how generous the loam guy is with his 1/2 yard of loam or 2 yards of bark mulch, etc.

I just bought mine and wanted the hitch installed. The dealer said the parts are on back order with no ETA on delivery. I don’t want the UHaul under the bumper hitch look, so it’ll likely be a few months before the Ford part becomes available.

Trailer + motorcycle = ~1700lbs so my OB will handle it, though not as easily as the 2.0L Escape...
