Very much clickbait. This article claims in the title that this is a cost over time thing for certain models, but doesn't provide a single number to back that up.
Agreed. The article lacks meaningful content, and many of the recalls it talks about, I've never heard about.

Plus, the deal breakers other than the price are the cloth seats and rubber floors. I'll take my easy to clean faux leather seats with carpeted floors any day.
I got the premium package with my badlands, so I have the faux leather seats, rubber floors, and carpet floor mats. Gotta say I was super skeptical of the carpeted floor mats, but the whole setup has been absolutely amazing for cleanup! The floor is a super easy clean, just let the sand/mud dry, vacuum the big pieces then Mothers VLR cleaner brings it all back to looking new in about 5 minutes a side. A little pressure wash on the floor mats then let them dry and cleanup is done! I've never had a vehicle that cleans easier and stays looking nice as long as this one does.

Cabin noise isn't all that loud, but it is louder than my '17 Escape. Part of the reason is I don't have soundproofing on the right side, or around the engine, and I have A/T tires that are going to be louder anyway. Turn the radio on 6 or higher and it all goes away anyway...

I wasn’t sure - do you use Mothers VLR VinylLeatherRubber cleaner on the rubber floors or were you talking about using a Mothers product on the carpet floor mats?

I have the same setup as you but I haven’t installed the carpet floor mats, instead I have Fords rubber floor mats over the ā€˜rubber’ floor.

I use the VLR on just the rubber floor! About once a year I follow-up with Mother's Protectant on the floors and such as well.

For the carpet mats I haven't yet cleaned them with anything but straight water from my pressure washer. It's been two years and they're still doing great. Dust storm season is wrapping up here, so I may use some carpet cleaner and protectant on the driver's side this year but that will really be time dependent.

When I originally got the vehicle I really hated the carpet mats and was kicking myself that I didn't order the vehicle with the rubber bronco ones you likely have. The carpet still looks a bit weird to me, but I'm glad I waited to put the aftermarket order in- I love the feel of the carpet floor after a long hike. If I'm hot and my feet are tired there's nothing like that soft carpet feel on bare feet.

Got it, thanks for the details.

I do have the Ford rubber bronco mats, those are very good quality although the white Bronco label got dirty quickly and doesn’t clean up back to the white letters.

I have the carpet floor mats too but haven’t used them, I should try a hike, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a vehicle with carpet or carpet mats.

As Dirty Harry says, "How lucky do you feel punk."

Owning any car is just a crapshoot whether you get a reliable one. Some are, some aren't.

I tend to buy what I like and hope for the best.

The first article seems almost worthless. Primarily clickbait.

The second links to CR's reliability ratings. They are not entirely objective, because they are based, in large part, on CR's subscriber surveys -- but they do provide valuable info:
https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-reliability-owner-satisfaction/who-makes-the-most-reliable-cars-a7824554938/#how-we-score-reliability

Quote:

"We weigh the severity of each type of problem to create a predicted reliability score for each vehicle, from 1 to 100. We use that information to give reliability ratings for every major mainstream vehicle. (The reliability rating is then combined with data collected from our track testing, as well as our owner satisfaction survey results and safety data, to calculate each test vehicle’s Overall Score.)"

"Both the Ford Edge and Maverick scored above-average this year..."

Keep in mind, CR only rates the BS -- not the Badlands. Also, the BS was initially rated "Very Good" (like the 2022 > '24 Edge, above. It was only after the recalls that the BS was downrated.

Mark and I (and others) discussed CR's surveys a while back. One concern is that while CR instructs subscribers to NOT include problems covered by a recall, they do not make that obvious. There's no doubt that some owners are including recall related problems -- but of course there's no way to know how many.

In addition, while it stands to reason that CR would take recalls into account, they do not say if they do. If they downrated the BS primarily, or exclusively, due to the recalls, that's not as bad (IMO) as if they had a bunch of random failures. Ideally, a recall resolves a problem.

A vehicle can have several recalls and still be very reliable. My 2002 WRX is a good example. It had a stupid number of recalls (6 or 7), some serious, but almost all were taken care of in the first year (IIRC) and the car was rock solid reliable afterward. Actually, it never left me stranded. It has over 200,000 miles on it -- the last 100K+ at Cobb Stage 2, and it still runs great.
I do not listen to much that CR has to say.

LOl. I was just typing something similar when your post appeared. Got mine from Zeigler. I 'm in it for the long haul. I think overall quality has slipped and not just with Ford. Makes the extended warranty more attractive unless you are leasing and never get past the manufacturer original warranty.
I agree got extended warranty for same reasons all car today have way too much electronics need to have extended warranty’s

I have a 2024 BS that has a lot of road noise. Ford could have spent a little more money on some sound deadening material.

I have the Badlands. I didn't know at the time of purchase that it came with acoustic laminated front door windows which help with reducing sound inside the cabin. I have a 20 Escape that also has the same side windows. I have had a 23 Escape for a few months where it was a deleted item. I could definitely tell the difference in outside noise without the acoustic laminated glass. I believe there is someone on the Escape forum that I also follow that replaced their standard side glass with the acoustic laminated glass and noticed the difference in the outside sound level.

I think so but I do not know if it was because I got the premium package or standard on Badlands. I could not find it as a listed item on the order guide. If I recall when I first noticed the laminated glass on the side front side window I checked other BS trims on the dealers lot and they were all tempered glass on all side windows where my Badlands has tempered glass on the rear side windows only similar to my 20 Escape. I slightly misspoke in the above post when I was talking about the glass. The front glass label says Laminated Glass but does not use the word Acoustic as it did on my 20 Escape. Not sure if the absence of the word accoustic makes a difference in sound deadening But a characteristic of laminated glass is its sound deadening properties over tempered glass. it may be a slightly cheaper version of the glass labeled with Acoustic or the label is just different because it was a different glass manufacturer.

Here is a description of laminated glass from glass.com:
Benefits of Laminated Side Window Glass
This isn’t to say that laminated glass is a bad product. Laminated glass actually has a number of benefits that tempered glass does not offer. First, laminated glass provides for a quieter vehicle cabin. The polyvinyl interlayer acts as insulation from outside sound. There are even types of polyvinyl called acousticinterlayers which are specifically designed for noise dampening purposes. The addition of this interlayer can help cut down on road noise, engine noise, traffic noise, and wind noise to make for a more enjoyable ride.

For a more full explanation of laminated vs tempered pros and cons of each check out the website:

It's not loud enough to deal with.
I agree. I was just trying to point out I did notice a difference. With the 23 Escape which I got rid of for other reasons I certainly would have lived with what ever glass that they put in the car. I just looked at is as just another example of decontenting and didn't expect to find it on my Badlands. I certainly wouldn't have gone out of my way to switch out the glass myself either.
