So, long story short we bought an existing 2023 inventory and took advantage of the $6500 instant rebate, unfortunately the only Cactus Gray left in all of SoCal was almost 200 miles away and it didn't have the tow package which we need for our Sea Doos

Thought, no biggie, I installed my own hitch on our old 2016 Ford Explorer and it was pretty easy and even had a simple t-connection wiring harness to plug into right near the passenger side rear bumper. Plug and play for running essential power to a trailer for brake lights, etc...

Well, started looking around youtube for install videos and it seems the wiring harness is a major PITA with all sorts of nonsense that could have been avoided had they uses the same type of plug and play harness tap in that they did with the Explorer

Kind of a joke for a manufacturer of a "go anywhere" type of vehichle to make adding a trailer hitch such a pain in the ass.?

Once it’s done the pain will be a distant memory
lol...yeah, first world problems, but a problem nonetheless

just mad about the lack of thought sometimes by auto makers especially on a off road adventure type vehichle like the Bronco Sport....

Now I know why some people refer to it as the BS ?

Not that you had the option but it makes the price of the tow package worth it.

You should see what I went through to install the factory tow equipment on my 2015 Transit. Got halfway into it and found out the van wasn't built with the main section of harness, and it wasn't a part in the catalog. Had to fabricate my own, and add pins to a connector under the hood. Plus Forscan programming to recognize the tow module, and wiring under the dash for the brake controller. And I still don't have working tail lights on the trailer, I kind of gave up and just don't use the Transit to tow at night.

So yeah, Ford doesn't make it easy to add towing, and my lesson learned was ALWAYS get the factory tow package. My BL has it and I'm grateful for it, although it's not a very comfortable tow vehicle.

100% agree and hope you tackle this install. It won’t be easy but I think you’ll appreciate having the tow ability. Sometimes it seems easier to trade in for a BS with the factory tow package.

Took delivery a month ago - the hitch came right in but not the wiring - still waiting on the parts. Last I heard they said June. Can't even use it for the plug-in multi-light gizmo I bought for it yet.

Put it on the Subaru Outback which we were able to get hitch and wiring at once. The light does work good - running light - brake light - and flashes with each turn signal - and works with 4 way flashers. Some do not do all that. Bought a 2nd light unit for when the BS finally gets wired.

We have the tow package on ours and for a small vehicle it tows well while getting decent mileage too.

Our BB did not come with the towing package, so we used our Ford points from when we bought it, I ordered the harness & the hitch & had the dealership install it.

https://www.curtmfg.com/part/13474 Installed this on mine. Wiring kit separate. There is a great install video. Simple if you have a lift. Slightly harder if you don't. No need to remove the tail-lights as some videos show to do.

I think the tow package is worth it just to get the full size spare, if nothing else.

What mileage do you get? I'm only getting 14 MPG towing my 6x10 enclosed trailer at about 1,000 lbs.
I have an open aluminum 6x10, I would think a lot lighter than yours. With about 750 pounds in the back I get between 9.5 & 10 L/100km (23-25 mpg US). That's pretty much all highway driving.

How fast are you driving? What shape is the trailer? Towing guidance from Ford lists a maximum frontal area along with weight.
