Hi All,

I have a 2021 Bronco Sport Big Bend that I really like. However, about a month after I bought it, I got stuck in the snow (high centered). There was a ton of snow at the time, so the street was only one lane. There was a guy who came from the direction of my front end who could have easily pulled me out, but since there are no recovery points on the front end of the Big Bend, I had to dig it out. I have been considering trading it for a Badlands for a long time. Now I am also considering a Maverick because we moved to the mountains and there have been more situations where it would have been nice to have a truck.

My wife has a 2022 Subaru Outback, which is roomier and has more cargo space than my BS, so if I get the Maverick, we'll still have a nice option for road trips if we're looking to stow everything inside instead of in a truck bed.

I'm looking for feedback from others about what you would miss about the BS if you got rid of it. I want to make sure I consider everything before I make a move. I will either get a BS Badlands or I'll get a Maverick Lariat FX4 or Tremor.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

I'm a pick-up person, so this is an easy call for me; Get the truck since you already have another SUV. My wife drives the BS.

If your plans for a truck involve towing keep in mind the Maverick Tremor can tow less than the Badlands. Additionally, if your plans involve off road driving be sure to compare the approach, departure, and breakover angles between the Maverick and Bronco Sport.

I have a BS Outerbanks and a Maverick Lariat Hybrid. Here are the key things missing from my Mav that are on my BS:

1. memory seat settings
2. homelink garage opener in the visor ( although I installed a BS visor in my Mav)
3. Speed limit sign recognition as part of the cruise control in CoPilot 360+
4. Rotary dial for transmission mode (normal, eco, slippery etc), the Mav is a push button
5. useable cubby in the dash just under the Nav screen
6. soft touch materials on the door and dash

Don’t get me wrong, I love both vehicles and I would have a very difficult time choosing between the two if I had to give one up. Generally I think my Mav rides a little better than the BS, likely because of the longer wheelbase. I also think my Mav is a little quieter than my BS, but that could be due to having the hybrid powertrain on my Mav. For you, since you have the Outback, I would get the Maverick for the utility of the truck bed. You will not be disappointed in the Maverick.

Maverick, you have the AWD capability in the Subaru.

Pickup's are handy for hauling when needed. Make sure you get the bed protected, sprayed, etc. if you go that route.

The Maverick is 27 " longer than the Sport so take that into account for garaging.

Considering everything, because you mentioned tremor, at that price point I would also include a Ranger in your search. It’s an actual body on frame pickup. I drove a new one for the first time last week and I think it was smoother than my Badlands and the seats were way better.

The Tremer Maverick is comparable to the Badlands in capability and drive feel. I too am a truck man so see the appeal. I would say that if your doing more off-road the badlands being shorter is a little more...maneuverable and doesn't get hung up, but if your smart it can go anyplace the Badlands goes. I think visually the front of the Maverick is a lot to be desired...if they put the front of the bronco onto the maverick and they'd have a visually stunning truck where they would have to beat buyers off with a stick.

Now I love our Bronco Sports, they are fun to drive, but my personal choice would be the Tremor Lariat Maverick. However I would add some extras to it, like a hard cover and tailgate lock. Also I'm a sucker for a moon roof. My build out came to $42,000. So actually was cheaper then the BS Badlands buildout with the same features. You can of course get cheaper, but hey go big or go home on the maverick I feel. The problem was the wait time for me. But driving my friends and the test drive and the little off road I got to try was awesome. When I decided the timing is right I will likely be jumping ship. Unless of course they can figure out how to merge the badlands and Maverick into a bronco small truck, that's the dream

The tremor has the Badlands advanced 4x4 system in the maverick

How about a third choice?

Ranger.

We have a BS BL and a Ranger XLT Tremor. For us, the perfect combo. For a number of reasons, never even considered the Maverick. Your Outback paired with a Ranger might be worth considering.

We also have the Outback and the Bronco Sport. Outback gets the nod for long trips for sure - a bit more comfy. Love the Maverick truck - but what they need looks wise is a Bronco truck! Grew up riding in the back of a 1970 Maverick car.

Actually there is a new Tremor Maverick that came off the same transport last week - and the buyer backed out. Still available at the Ford dealer in Enumclaw, WA.

Considering going back to a truck & in the Ford family that’s the way I’d go. I haven’t experienced the new Ranger yet, but everything I’ve heard seems to match your experience. Just a bit more room & better seats to bring you closer to what you’d expect out of a truck & should be smoother with the increase in wheelbase. Budget discussions between folks are always somewhat subjective, but they seem to be reasonable cost for what you get. Ford sales guy (of course he’s not trying to sell me on a Toyota…) figured they tried to bring as much F150 as they could into the Ranger particularly when for the rest of the world, it is their F150.
