I have a '23 OBX that I don't drive much. I'm retired and only work part-time one day a week. We usually drive my wife's Ecosport daily and use our OBX for vacations 3 or 4 times a year. The car only sits dormant for a week at a time. I just purchased a new Kymco motor scooter. I will be using it for work in the good weather. This means the OBX may sit dormant in the garage for a month at a time. Now for the questions:

1. Has anyone used a Battery Tender on their BS? I use it on my garden tractor and scooter in the winter. Could I put it on my OBX in the summer?
2. If I disconnect the OBX battery for a half-hour or so to install the Battery Tender wiring harness, what will I have to re-set when I hook it back up. What if any settings will I lose?

I have a battery tender on my 2023 Outer Banks, as it too will sit in the garage for a week or two before it gets used.

No worries in disconnecting the battery for a period to install the battery Tenders plug. no reset will be needed. I don't think we even lost our radio station pre sets; at least the wife did not complain to me about that!

Thank you for the quick reply, Bucko. I'll install the Battery Tender harness when I get back from vacation next week.

Mine sits a lot and is always on a battery tender. Easy connect and disconnect without opening the hood.

Rocks… question? I’ve noticed several comments over the last few months about “connecting” the battery tenders (trickle chargers). I travel in our MH in the summer and gone for 4months. Our BS isn’t our toad. I plan to leave it on the TC. Snap a pic and post if you will how you have it hooked up pls. I’ve heard you have to make sure to go directly to terminals so not the throw off cpu monitors. Thx ?

I hooked the wires up to the positive side of the battery and the negative side to a body bolt and not the negative side. You can leave the battery maintainer on charge for months. When I lived in NJ and had a '69 Corvette show car, it was on a battery charger the whole 6-7 months off car show and cruise night season.

I use a battery Tender Jr on mine during the summer when it doesn't get driven much. You shouldn't have to disconnect the battery to attach the adapter cable.

That's the only bad part of a short adapter cable and a battery that sits far back. All my other vehicles I could sneak it out the front near the headlight. This one sits under the hood! :frown:

1) Yes, we use Battery Tenders (BT) on all of our vehicles, they make great maintainers. I have one on our BS BL right now.
2) As Steve said, you should not have to disconnect the battery to connect the polarized BT connector.

We have only used the connector with our motorcycle, because it it time-consuming to access the battery. With all other vehicles I use the alligator clips. It's just not a big deal to pop the hood, and for vehicles that are not in the garage, the BT can be protected under the hood.

To each their own, but IMO there is little reason to use the polarized connector -- especially when, as Steve pointed out, the supplied cable is not long enough to secure where it is accessible without raising the hood. If the hood must be raised anyway, it really takes about the same amount of time either way -- clips or connector.
