Just for fun, yet somewhat serious, Any idea on why Ford named the 1.5L Engine "Dragon"?
For example, we know the 5L V8 Coyote is named after "named after the first Ford with a four-valve V8 which was a race car.."
Though I can't take a good guess as to why Ford went with Dragon for the 3-cyl. Nor can i find any research on it.

Is there anything this engine shares in common? lol

"Fire-breathing" comes to mind, as this is a turbocharged engine. I believe the "Dragon" label originated with the team from India involved in the engine's development. Dragons are a part of Indian mythology.

Power per liter. It’s quite high and the engine is small and light. It’s also very eager to deliver power. Isnā€˜t it built in India? Maybe that has something to do.

All of the replies have great speculations (Chiefthepup you made my day
?)

There's another question though,

Is that 1.5L 3cyl engine actually manufactured in Craiova, Romania- Or
Chihuahua, Mexico? The info on that seems conflicting

Hermosillo sources the 1.5L EB "Dragon" from Chihuahua Engine Plant for Bronco Sport, same with Louisville Assembly for Escape.

The older 4 cylinder 1.5L EB did come from Romania for US-built Escape, etc.

You should be able to find a label on the side of the engine with the serial number and marked CHEP for Chihuahua Engine plant.

Because it catches on fire….jk ? idk why they called it Dragon when like the 2.0 turbo 4 cyl doesn’t have a name. Maybe it’s because they used it in the Fiesta ST in Europe as a performance engine.

Interesting that this 3 Cylinder isn't even called Dragon anymore, or part of the Dragon engine family, it's now part of Ford's "MPC" engine family.

Also the 1.5L Dragon is based off the 1L "Fox" engine (123hp EcoSport 1.0 3 cylinder turbo), now why it's called the Fox engine is a different story lol

Like for fun, these are all of the Ford Engine names that i'm aware of

The 1.0L Fox is a EcoBoost3 Cyl
The 1.5L Dragon is also a EcoBoost 3cyl
The 1.5L "Sigma" is the EcoBoost 4cyl
The 2.7L "Nano" is a Twin-Turbo V6(and the 3L version)
the naturally aspirated 3.5L and 3.7L V6s are named "Cyclone"
