I don't sit at the pump while entering the data. I get a receipt (also electronic) and enter it when I can. I don't like duplicating effort (write it down first, then enter it in the spreadsheet), and I like being able to access the data anytime I have my phone, which is pretty much always. So yeah, to each his/her own!
Last year, I made a couple drives to the Chicago area from NJ. Once in March and again in October. 3 of the 4 gas stations where I refueled did not have working printers on them. Sunoco stations!
My log book and pencil still worked. :)
Very high headwinds all the way westbound. I was very surprised at how bad my fuel mileage on my 2.0L '17 Escape was. I was expecting 28-30. I got only 22 mpg.
I did get 29-30 mpg on the eastbound return trips. It's called "Prevailing westerlies" - It's a northern North America weather pattern.

A pencil is too much work...have to sharpen it too often; then the shavings get all over the floor that I just vacuumed.

There are no slots, but you could probably Dremel them. There is room on the interior front of the glovebox, or on the roof of the glovebox for a bunch of slots. The back edge looks low enough to clear a dangling pencil. You can conservatively add a dozen of these to your ride.

I use a pencil sharpener that catch and holds the shavings, till i remove them and then recyle. Clean floor and clean environment.

Actually Major, the quote is "He WORKED it out with a pencil". I was a math MAJOR in college! And here I thought you knew everything:rolleyes:
He probably does know everything but was testing to see if we were paying attention.?

All this talk of pencils is bringing back memories of my childhood. When I was in first grade, we were issued large blue pencils and told to practice writing our first name neatly on paper, staying between the lines. I complained to the teacher that my hand was too small to hold the large blue pencil, and asked if I could use a "normal" yellow #2 pencil. She sent a note home with me that my parents had to sign, stating I was being a smart ass.

I thought I was being logical.

Who uses a pencil these days?
I prefer a pencil, but I'm also half remembering a story about NASA spending ungodly amounts of money to develop a pen that would work in zero gravity. However, the Soviet Union just gave their cosmonauts pencils. Some would call me a "space cadet" but I guess I'm really a "cosmonaut".
