79 AMC Spirit. Manual. I would take it back. The places I went in that car. Sigh... I let friends talk me into a new car. (Fun to drive but piece of crap Eagle Talon) With over 250,000 miles on it, I put an ad in an AMC forum. Free to good home. It was given to a young man and his girlfriend. His parents collected Hudsons. They told him to pick something else to collect. My Spirit was his second. I often wonder if it did get restored. When I parked it, the only thing it needed was an alternator and a wee bit of body work.

So to toss the question back into your court, was this car cool enough to want again today? For me, yes, the Beetle was cool, and it fit my initial 16 year old goals. And I think my wife of 40 years would go out on a date with me in it today.

Just look at those color matching wheels:like:
I don't need the car to trigger my nostalgia; I've got other keepsakes for that. Even with the color matching wheels I think I'd pass. I'm way too spoiled to accept 88 hp. Plus emissions stuff back then made engine exhaust smell like rotten eggs. No thanks.

I would, and I did. '73 Firebird Formula. Adult life hit after high school and figured I'd never have time to fix it up so I sold it. Always regretted it. A few years later I saw it for sale on Craigslist a couple towns over and bought it back.
Wow I knew I liked you. 1973 Formula 400.

First? No. But I sure wish I had my garage from a decade ago back! I loved this pair & wish I still had both. Sadly I didn’t think about writing down the VIN for the truck to see if I could find it still on the road even. The Mustang is no longer survivor original as the guy I sold it to turned it into a project car with his daughter. A fitting use for such a car!

IMO, the 2004 (post heritage) to 2007 were one of the best styled F150's. I had a 2004, and still have my 2007 STX, with it's rubber floor mats and manual crank windows.

Awesome enjoy that STX! I thought mine would run forever & it probably still is. Nicely understated styling. Great interior above all else. Comfortable & at least reasonably efficient for the time. I haven’t had anything I’ve liked as much since.

Don't be sad for me, @Bucko. There ARE cars from my past I would love to own again. For example: The 1984 Chrysler Laser I bought brand new. (Here's an article from C&D on the Laser's sister car, the Daytona). THAT car was a ton of fun to drive. I had a friend who owned a Porsche 944, and he HATED my cheap Chrysler, mainly because it would blow the doors off his much more expensive Porsche. Alas, she was totaled by a South Dakota hail storm. This is a photo of her sitting in the parking lot a few days before the hail storm.

That is gorgeous! Mine didn't look near that nice when I got it. I didn't realize when I bought it that someone had swapped in a rear glass from a '75 so it has the wrap around rear window. Common thing people did in the 80's I've heard. I'm planning on swapping it back one of these days. I had a 455 in mine. Not original to the car, but it was in it when I bought it. Affording gas was a bitch so after a year or so I swapped it out for a 350 Pontiac that my Dad had in his old '65 Lemans years before. I've still got the 455 which I'll put back in eventually. I haven't driven it now in about six years. We had a massive snow winter here in 16/17. Like record breaking snow. Hundreds of buildings came down. One of which was my main farm shop where I putter with my cars. Luckily my '73 was parked outside but I lost three Trans Ams, a '52 Willys wagon, a '52 Ford Consul, and a '36 Ford Humpback when it came down. I haven't gotten back to building cars again yet. I have a slight addiction to cars, especially old Pontiacs. I've owned close to 100 2nd gen Firebirds over the years. Buy them, fix em, sell em. Hell my senior project in high school was restoring a '79 Trans Am. Took it down to every nut and bolt and back again. Wish I would have kept that one as well.

I'll snag some pics of my '73 when I'm around it in the next couple days for ya. Whatever happened to your '73?

No I would not. It was a 1996 Ford Contour 4cyl. It never left me stranded, it was just bleh to look at and bleh to drive with it's slush box automatic.

Yes...if I had anywhere to park it.

Mine was a 1980 Volvo station wagon that I bought from my parents. Was the car I grew up in. My little brother's cheerios are still probably under the back seat. This vintage of Volvo 240 had vent controls that looked exactly like Oreo cookies.

It started out as chocolate brown, but when the paint started cracking my mom had it painted blue sometime in the early 90's. In my freshman year in college, I took a rattle can and painted the white racing stripes as a joke (I had no illusions that it was fast).

There was a time I could fit everything I owned inside. It was incredibly reliable, when I sold it in 2004 it had over 230,000 miles and for many years afterwards I would get reports from friends that they had seen it on the road. I believe it is still parked down the street from my friends' house in Berkeley (where all old Volvos go to die), I will look for it when we see them this weekend.
