I put in a Spigen dash mount that holds a first party Apple Magsafe puck.

Pros:
  • 15W charge speed. The car mounts that will wirelessly charge an iPhone at 15 watts are certified Magsafe accessories. For car mounts, the only fully out of the box option is this one vent mount from Belkin for $100. The alternative is to get a mount like this that has adhesive and you add an Apple Magsafe puck to it. (Non-certified magsafe devices, iPhone will only charge at 7.5W wirelessly - any Amazon listing saying "Magsafe compatible 15W" on other products is misleading you. It'll offer 15W Qi charging to devices that want that rate, but the iPhone won't take more than 7.5W unless it's Magsafe certified, and that's barely better than the 5W of the charging mat that is factory installed in certain BS trims/packages)
  • Having the secondary screen next to Carplay is useful for certain non-distracting apps - for example, when Waze is open in Carplay, if Waze is on the phone, you can see more than just the next turn, or the list of traffic/hazards/police/etc., or if you have a bluetooth app for a radar detector (YaV1, Escort Live, etc.) again useful.
  • Having the phone up high and close to the start/stop ignition button means I'm less likely to forget it than the built in wireless charger (which again is much slower - the one built into the BS is 5W, this does 15W), or with wired Carplay. Easier to stick on for charging than fishing for the cable too.
Cons:
  • Apple doesn't make the Magsafe puck in anything except white, so the white cable sticks out. I'm OK with this tradeoff, although if the back of the screen (or dash behind it) had a USB-C, that would have been nice. (Sync 3 does not like the puck being plugged into the USB-C port below the radio either - for max charge rate, you need a 12V USB-C PD adapter capable of charge rates at or above 9V/2.56A... not hard to find these days, but you'd want to pick an adapter of that profile).
  • It's slower than the theoretical max charge rate wired on newer iPhones; however, research suggests that it's still faster than the USB-C port below the radio. I haven't measured it myself, but for the Big Bronco 6G, people tested the port and the USB-C port seems to max out at 5V * 1.79A = 8.95W, even for phones capable of drawing more. If you were to plug into a 12V DC adapter with a USB-C PD rating of sufficient spec, iPhone 13/14 Pro Max models max charge rate is 27W, and non-max 13/14 Pro models max out at 20W.

Looks good but how do you connect CarPlay? I'm assuming it doesn't work through MagSafe?

Ottocast U2-air wireless carplay adapter. I had a carlinkit 3.0 in my prior car (2015 Ford Fusion, I had upgraded the radio from MyFord Touch to Sync 3) for wireless carplay.

I would have bought the Carlinkit again but I got a better price on the Ottocast on sale.

This happened a could have days ago but I finally hit the 1,000 break in mark. And today's her 1 month birthday. That feels like a lot of miles to put on it.

I also did a 450 ish mile road trip. I drove up to the selling dealer to pick up my very expensive Appearance Car Kit and had them reapply the ceramic coating ?. I didn't really NEED to do all that but I really wanted to just go for a drive.

I then drove over to San Antonio to run an errand, drove around up there, then went back home. It was a pretty comfortable ride overall. Sometimes I need to get out and stretch or walk around but I was good.

I did get bugs all over the windshield. I might be picking up that hood wind deflector next. I just wish it mounted instead of glued on.

Got some firsthand knowledge that a rolled up 10 foot area rug barely fits in the Sport from rear hatch to dashboard. ? Got a compliment on how pretty the car is while playing Tetris in the Home Depot parking lot with the rug and a new lawn mower.

In New York you have to be above the ASI line. Yours looks really close to that. That would be illegal in New York State.
We had the tint guy go to just above the ASI line, legal in Va.

You're good to go then. It just looked lower than mine. Now if only my door windows were legal. New York doesn't allow any tint on them.

Spent just under 5 hours casually installing the factory tow hitch. Fairly straight forward install, only part that annoyed me was the retaining clips on the standard black plastic fender cladding seemed more inclined to commit die then give me enough space to remove the concealed bolt under them.

Did you have to do any cutting to the bumper or did you get one already fabricated for hitch?
