How accurate are the tire pressure readings that show upon the dash. I just bought a new (fairly expensive digital) tire pressure gage. After inflating the tires to 33 PSI per the gage, the dash reading was 2 lbs. higher. I know 2 lbs. is no big deal, but I wonder which is correct. Has anyone else had this situation? The tires were cold when inflated, and the car was not driven when the dash was looked at.

Use a manual gauge or stop by a tire shop and ask them to measure it. And I’m willing to bet a dollar your digital tire gauge will match. And another dollar says they will all three match at that instance, just to piss you off. :like:

I’ll have to give it a check. The Lexus is spot on, I assumed these would be too.

Just because you bought an expensive tire pressure gage doesn't necessarily mean that it's accurate. Have you tried any other air pressure gage to compare readings?

The owners manual says do not use the TPMS to set tire air pressure, use a quality gage.

As you said, 2lbs difference isn't a big deal.

Just a thought...it seems like the TPMS has to reboot by driving the car in order to recognize the new tire pressure. I would imagine within a few minutes the two measurements would be the same.

My 2 cents is the TPMS is very accurate and most gauges I buy (even the good ones)....are not.

You have to drive it for a mile or two before it corrects itself

I bought a decently good stick gauge and set them to 33 lbs (they came preloaded with 45 lbs from Ford). My dash is showing one at 34 and the others at 33 after some driving around.

The dash readings are provided so my wife can inform me that the right front tire is reading one pound less than the other three. We both smile, and go back to our business.

Yeah, mine came from the dealer way overinflated and the dealer neglected to check them during prep.

A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure.

I had the opposite experience. The dealership inflates the tires inside at room temp. Then you drive home at -30 C and, surprise - under inflated.
