Thought we had a radiator leak to find out from the dealer that there is a known issue with the BS water pumps. Get yours checked and replaced while under warranty as there is no recall. I own the BS-OB 2021

There are a lot of posts about water pumps on the 1.5L on this forum. Quite a few people have had disappearing coolant that leaks so slowly they never see it and rarely smell it. Lots of water pump replacements, some with the old spec pump and some with the new spec.

There will not be a recall until this is proven to be a safety hazard, which probably will never happen. Ford might do a TSB release to the dealer network that has them checking for this sort of thing and replacing the pump when they find an issue. No dealership will replace a water pump under warranty without evidence of it failing because Ford won’t pay them for the part or labor.

The dealer just replaced my water pump under warranty on my 2023 Outer Banks with 19,500 miles. I am picking it up today.

I took my 2022 Big Bend in for routine oil and filter change today and was informed that the water pump was leaking through the weep hole. They're replacing it under warranty as I have 24,500 miles on her. The dealer provided me with a loaner vehicle. I have read about this problem on the forum but was still taken by surprise as I never saw dripping on the ground and no overheating. The service advisor told me mine is not the first they've dealt with. Hopefully the replacement pump is not the same one. He believes it is a better one from a different manufacturer.

Update: pump replaced. Genuine OEM part#HX7Z-8501-B; Replaces part#HX7Z-8501-A. I could not find who the manufacturer is. Having a "B" designation leads me to believe this is an updated and hopefully improved part! They also replaced the serpentine drive belt as it became contaminated with coolant.

Here is one example of the HX7Z-8501-A water pump replaced with a “New” HX7Z-8501-B (or HX7Z-8501-BA) water pump.

On Facebook is the Bronco Sport group “2021+ Ford Bronco Sport Owners” shown at the top of the 1st pic and pics 2, 3, and 4 provide additional information.

To get the full information access the Facebook group and search for the posting.

Also see Post #28 regarding failure of the “New” HX7Z-8501-BA water pump.

2021 Ford Bronco Sport, water pump failed at 25,000 miles, again around 50,000, and I'm now at 74,000 and it has failed yet again. It was replaced before my warranty expired the first 2 times. Now that my warranty expired 2,000 miles ago the dealership says they won't replace it without me paying for it. I asked them when it failed a second time what happens if this keeps happening. They told me they'd replace it and it has a lifetime guarantee. Now they said it's not covered. How could it be normal wear and tear to go out 3 times in 74,000 miles??

It’s not normal and is very unreasonable to expect a customer will stay with Ford under the scenario you stated.

It seems unlikely Ford will be proactive until there is a settled class action lawsuit similar to what happened with Subaru. Save the receipts for any related out of pocket expenses such as batteries you purchase, labor, towing, loss of use of the vehicle, etc.

You could try calling Ford customer service and also follow the instructions in the owners manual for contacting the BBB and for arbitration (assuming you are in the USA).

I'll do what it takes at this point. Not only has this happened, but my turbo went out about a month and a half, two months ago. I'm a court reporter and rely heavily on reliable transportation. This is far from reliable. The dealership has it more than I have. I mean, it's not entirely their fault, but stand behind what you're selling consumers. And I know the price tag that comes with these vehicles. They should function properly. 3 water pumps and a malfunctioning turbo should happen all before 74,000 miles.

Ford recently released an update on the service bulletin regarding water pump replacement. Specifically, it requires the entire cooling system to be flushed prior to installation of a new pump. I have speculated the reason for this is that a pump failure contaminates the cooling system with bits and pieces of whatever part is failing in the pump, and if those bits/pieces are not flushed from the coolant they will destroy the new pump. If I were you, I would ask your servicing dealership if they complied with that directive the last time they replaced the pump. If they did not, then you likely have a good case to make with Ford for a new pump even though you're out of warranty.

I'm on my 3rd at 40,000 and I need to check up on it yet again.

I wonder if they flushed the cooling system correctly after the 1st and 2nd Water Pumps were replaced like Mark S mentioned above. That just doesn't seem right when the one guy IIRC said he had 72,000 miles on his 1.5 Eco Boost Bronco Sport and hasn't had any Water Pump problems.
