It does look great and I agree having solid piece without the opening would be ideal.. I’ve not found one without the opening

The opening serves no purpose other than collecting dust. The piece stays tight with two sided tape, so you can't really take it out to clean the small area. Still worth it. Looks even better in person.

I think the opening is there to engage the parking brake. If it was solid, there would be no easy way to lift the parking brake lever.
