I hope this is ok to post. And I'll do my intro post soon... it's been a long few days.

So recently my car insurance went up about 50%. Increasing costs, whatever. Let's not go down that political road. But now that I added my new BS, it doubled! And I haven't had an accident or incident in 8+ years.

I'm looking at Consumer Reports for insurances and they don't have a lot of the major ones. I'm looking at Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Nationwide, AAA. But are there any other quality insurance providers that I might be missing?

I’ve had good luck with Mercury. Not the cheapest, but their service and claims handling over the years has been great.

If I’m reading your post correctly… you added a 35k to be replaced vehicle to your insurance and it went up.
mine went up when I added my BS because my risk to the insurance went up. If I drove a 1988 civic my insurance would be pretty dang cheap as value of that rig is 500 bucks. Risk is what I hit( half of insurance) other half is risk to my car, so valueof my car going up is a big deal.

We use MAPFRE. Good ricing. One claim and they handled it really well. I was surprised my BS is about 40% more than my Sprinter RV that’s worth twice as much!

Used the Jerry app for the first time and it's been the best insurance shopping experience ever, they will collect data from you and apply discounts while shopping all kinds of quotes, they'll show you your best quotes once all data is collected. Went from paying $1400 a year to $800 with the same coverage.

Yes, I get the whole risk thing.

What I don't get is on my current insurance, it more than doubles when I add the BS but when I run quotes with other companies, it goes up 20-30%. I'm paying about $150 now.

I ended up removing the Accord from the current policy for now. It's just sitting there with the engine torn apart so there's very little risk. But I do want to shop around. To me, that's way too much to spend at an insurance company with a middle of the road rating.

My car policies have increased dramatically as well the past two years. It’s not political, it’s profiteering. There was a massive drop in accidents and claims paid out in 2020 and 2021 so really out rates should have been decreasing

I now have progressive but it’s through liberty mutual because my agent can sell it. That dropped it a little.
By replacing my 2012 Hyundai Elantra with my 2023 badlands, my annual premium is about $225 more.

Progressive has the most competitive rates for us currently. I shop around quite a bit, no reason to be loyal to an insurance company. Sick with the larger carrier, they will all try to screw you when you have a claim. Did a USAA quote, was quite a few hundred higher for the year. Being in the industry people are strangely passionate about paying too much for USAA coverage, just an observation, you do you.
