Water pump fyi

As you all know, had a water pump leak last year. Dealer had one in stock. Replaced in a day. Here we are again with another water pump leak. Apparently we did not get the “updated” pump. Going back into the shop next week. Supposedly they have the new and improved one this time. Will report back. Just so you know, there is no discernible “leak” but I can smell it (I know, that’s what she said ?). Reservoir level is ok so it’s not a huge leak. Keeping an eye in it and driving it like I stole it every day.

I have a 2023 Outer banks with slow weeping coolant leak at pump, I take it in Thursday to Ford dealer, do you happen to know updated part number? I'm sure it's somewhere else on this forum too, TIA. Just want to make sure this doesn't happen to me as well.

I may be wrong but I think I've read of the updated water pump failing too.

The part number was updated, but I've never seen anything definitively stating that the pump was somehow changed to address leak problems. I'm sure I'll have mine in for the issue. I've got 17k miles on mine and I can smell coolant after I park in it the garage. No visible leaks and I've only had to add about 1/2 gallon of coolant in those 17k miles. Cheers!

“The (original) water pump that started leaking and was replaced was the same Part Number as the new replacement water pump. Supposedly an upgraded water pump.
Old Water Pump HX7G-8501-BA 23822 8221
New Water Pump HX7G-8501-BA 05223 3921

So even the new upgraded water pumps can be prone to leaking. Time will tell.”

Smell is almost always the very first indication of a coolant leak.
