A (say) 25% tariff that applies to all cars and trucks made in Mexico and Canada is essentially a non-negotiable "additional dealer markup" of 25% for all of those vehicles.

A 25% increase in prices (~$10,000+) would slash sales of affected models, if not kill them.

I think that there is some serious lobbying and negotiating going on right now.

And cost you more for everything you purchase
Not necessarily. As free market competition will always bring prices down.
Initially there may be price increases but over time, if we don’t strangle the market like has been done with regulations, prices will come down AND Americans will make more money and hopefully pay less less taxes.

Nope you do not have enough oil, wood hydro. Or metals.
how is a importer going to bring prices down when they have to pay your own govt tax. Not true read up on it. He doesn’t know anything about tariffs much little else

When we are allowed to drill off-shore again oil will be no issue. I believe in 2015 or 2016 the US had a larger oil reserves than Saudi Arabia due to lessening restrictions on drilling. Same goes for metals as well. Due to regulations imposed mining has because more expensive than importing metals from other countries who do not have those regulations. Why not just mine for them here?

You don’t have uranium just for eg your country does have everything no country does. Eg
It will take at least 10 years to get to days oil consumption you use not the amount in 10 years. U don’t have including potash, uranium, and aluminum. Canada is also a leading producer of critical minerals, which are essential for clean energy technologies and advanced

Last time around we stocked up pretty quickly due to Trumps policies on drilling??‍♂ AND we now have the contrast with Biden in office. To put it simply… Under Trump gas = cheaper. Under Biden gas = expensive. The same goes for most all other goods as well. Guy must be doing something right.

It won’t be cheap if he applies tariffs on Canada. You gas will increase over night by minimum 30 cents a gallon. If Canada also slaps 25% export tax on its oil count on adding even more a gallon.
hey I like the convo but hockey game starting lol

Your guy did black face so by most of his constituents standards he is a raging racist. Also none of that was free. You just paid for it upfront on each check you got.
Sure our taxes are higher on booze cigarettes gas but I’d rather have fee health care etc. no one lost a house due to hospital bills.
hey I enjoy the convo but hockey game is starting talk latter
