Anyone able to get the Sync 3 to recognize a USB music stick? It is formatted Exfat as recommended.

Works for me. I have mostly FLAC files and I’m happy that it reads them without issue! The stick I use is 256 GB with about 24 GB of files (1500 tracks).

Though there is a lot of variation in how long It takes to find the stick when starting up. Sometimes it’s instant, others it takes 30s…

I have tried the Ottocast on both ports so I believe that both are active. It just is not showing up on Sync 3.

I have around 6,000 songs that worked on both A and C ports. Only the two under the dash are for data. Others are only for charging.

My Badlands always recognizes the USB stick in the forward USB-A port.

The one (very minor) hiccup is that on engine start up I usually see an error message, "cannot find lrt_004" something like that. Message goes away automatically and didn't affect music at all.

I put all of my wife's music on a usb stick & she listens to it with no problems. She has it plugged in to the larger of the 2 ports in the front of the console cubbie.

Mine works great now that I updated to the latest Sync 3 release. The previous release worked for 2 years then got flaky. I run all .m4a files on a 32 gig exfat format.

Found this. It states the largest size supported is 128.

How do I use USB devices with Ford SYNC? - The Big Tech Question
What might be happening with OPs case especially since @CLR stated “The stick I use is 256 GB with about 24 GB of files” is the much larger number of files with OPs case is overwhelming Sync3 (either in Sync3s available free memory, or Sync3s available processing power).

I had planned to suggest to OP (@kshaw) …

1. UPDATED: Up to 256Gb USB Device is known to work to play music.
2. Try reformatting the 256G USB Device and reloading files (sometimes USB Devices get corrupted)
3. Check and upgrade to SYNC 3, Software Version: 3.4 Build 23188 PRODUCT if not already at 23188.

From the article:

“some owners have got devices with hundreds of GB of storage working successfully”

“However, bear in mind that your Ford will need to index the device and the more content you have, the longer it will take”

“based on my own experience, If you have issues with your Ford not accepting a storage device then it’s more likely to have been formatted incorrectly”

I use the C port for the media drive because most of my devices/cords work out of the A port. I have a 128MB with roughly 2,500 files. It works, but the Sync take so long to boot/ready the source, it usually switches sources on restart and I can eventually switch back when it reindexes. I wish Sync performed better.
