The unknown issue with auto-start-stop “working normally” & “is basically transparent” remains the impact to the vehicles battery. The combination of the battery management & alternator management prior to Recall 24S24 and post-Recall 24S24 along with auto-start-stop can have an impact to battery life. Evidence* shows batteries that are the EFB type fare the worst (this statement is specific to just EFB vs AGM Batteries) but I’m not convinced the AGM Battery type is unaffected.

*I’m not posting evidence - Google shows many reports on battery impacts in auto-start-stop vehicles.

Bottom line - the impact on battery life from auto-start-stop could be minimal but so is the average owners savings on fuel with auto-start-stop enabled - trade one over the other probably is a wash. Just a guess.

Do you have your a/c on auto? I think that might impact it, too.

I really wish they would integrate ASS with the camera system so that if you pull up to a red light that's been red for a while, it won't turn on. Same for a fast moving stop sign intersection. I know it gets a lot of hate but I can see where if it turns off your auto for a good amount of time, it can save on gas. It's the whole turn off and back on within seconds that can cause premature wear.

It’s a useless feature regardless. Shouldn’t even exist. Had it disabled with auto stop start eliminator on our big bend. On the badlands disabled through forscan.

consider it a free mod if it doesn’t work on its own
Thankfully, mine was disabled when I purchased my tune from 5 Star. The auto start/stop's greatest feature IMO is being annoying

The ASS fine in the summer except when the AC was on. Now that's cold and the heat and heated seats are on it does always work. The ASS in the ranger stopped working a while ago except after a long trip and then it worked for a short time. With all those conditions in the manual that says it has to occur for it to work, it's no wonder it doesn't work much. It's not a big to worry about!

This video was posted some time ago on the forum about start stop:

I found it interesting. I now don't bother turning off start stop.

Ford used EFB-type or an AGM Battery in Bronco Sports (no Conventional flood lead-acid batteries (FLA) were used).

Everything I’ve read says AGM Batteries are designed to better support auto-start-stop systems ASSUMING the battery, alternator, etc. are properly sized and the battery management software is designed correctly.

Ford’s Recall 24S24 does not cover a battery replacement: “NOTE: 12v battery replacement is not reimbursable under the terms of this (24S24) program.”.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCMN-24V267-9251.pdf

According to other posts on this form, Ford switched to only use AGM Batteries for Bronco Sports but I don’t recall if that statement was confirmed or not.

Note: Post #16 above was clarified to read: “Evidence* shows batteries that are the EFB type fare the worst (this statement is specific to just EFB vs AGM Batteries) but I’m not convinced the AGM Battery type is unaffected.” because in the context of Post #16 I was referring to just EFB vs AGM Batteries.

I have a 24 Badlandsand I am not sure if the dashboard is configured the same as the Badlands but one thing that you can do while driving your BS is select Auto Start/Stop in the display menu which is on the right side of the steering wheel. This way you would be able to toggle through the display menu and you would be able to see how the auto start/stop is working when the Bronco is stopped. For instance while driving the message on the dashboard will say "Engine operating normally". Once you come to a stop the message will change and let you know why the Auto Start/Stop is not turning on. The message could say (paraphrasing) "Engine on due to vehicle charging" or "Engine on due to low or high outside temperature" There are probably other messages but I do not recall what others I might have seen.

On the 24 Owners Manual Information Display instructions start on page 104. Page 106 has the personalized settings that are available for your main screen.

I've noticed on my 23 OBX that the Auto Stop/Start works more consisently when the outside temperature is above 65F. During the winter, it rarely, if ever, stops/starts the engine.

a great way to kill your battery & starter in my opinion. I just turn it off after starting. surely not needed with light after light. you can probably save more in eco mode...
It's a bad myth that floats around as to the auto stop/start killing a starter. They have been engineered to be far more robust to handle the feature.

I have yet to see any significant reports of a failed starter due to the auto start/stop.

I'm all eyes and ears if there is any documented proof that this feature kills starters.

Does stand to reason the supposedly more robust starter would last a very long time with the ASS eliminated.

ASS is a dangerous feature the manufacturers have implemented into our vehicles.

Save your battery, starter and sanity with the ASS eliminator. Could save you from an accident. Best thing since sliced bread.

Can you explain why it is dangerous? I also have not seen any significant documentation as to accidents or deaths (?) caused by the start/stop feature.

The delay off the line - a couple seconds could get you out of the way of an accident. Not to mention if you never get your ASS off the line if it does not restart.
