Maybe the same for Mayflies! They have to pull out the snow plows in late May or early June depending on the hatch. Greasy as all get out!
Uggh .. hadn’t heard of Mayflies .. looks like they are in most continental US States

And love bugs in Florida and Cicadas when they come out are no fun either.

This is from the south shore of Lake Erie. They are only bad for a week or so.

Back in the day, I was driving at night in AZ with a broken A/C. I started hearing a screeching noise, and I was sure it was the alternator. I turned off the engine, and the noise continued. It was cicadas. It turned out the alternator was bad. I had to replace it the next day, and had to use the boat battery to start the car that night.

went to the Off-Roadeo and their guy said you should really only use slippery in icy conditions, you can keep it in normal and just select the 4wd near your goat mode knob for snow and stuff. It puts a lot of wear on your breaks so only should use it when you need it, IE ice.
Best thing to use for ice is your telephone. Cancel your appointments and stay home.

exactly, the guide at off roadeo said it is great if you need to drive slowly down your icy driveway, not for any long distance driving ideally

I’d love to know this as well. I used it last week when we had our “atmospheric river” pass through and roads were crazy-wet.
Personally I'd put it in 4 if in a badlands click the little 4wd lock

Because slippery mode puts a lot of wear and tear on the braking system
The question was about wet pavement, not ice. The only time SLIPPERY mode increases wear on brakes is when it employs torque vectoring, and that only happens when a wheel loses traction and spins. Torque vectoring applies the brakes on a spinning wheel to force torque to the other wheel on the same axle that's not spinning. The normal traction and stability control systems use the same brake-based torque vectoring, and these are engaged all the time, so I don't see how SLIPPERY mode will cause greater wear on the brake system.

You owner's manual warns against engaging the 4WD lock on dry pavement due to the increased wear on the power transfer unit. I would submit there isn't much difference between dry pavement and wet pavement when it comes to wear on the PTU.

Slippery mode is more about rapid braking adjustments than torque vectoring
