I know a lot of you don’t care for the feel of slippery mode on the road but I got to so a real world test today. Freezing rain from a Colorado Low. Speed on highway between 60 and 70 mph. SM does feel a little squirrelly but switching back normal was wayyyyyyy worse. I’ll keep using it. ?

My experience is slippery at slow speeds on ice. I deliberately stopped on ice one night where a couple people kept losing traction and had to back down a steep hill. A half dozen times I came to a complete stop and s l o w l y pulled ahead without any wheel slip felt. The AWD engagement was totally smooth which is exactly what you want to NOT lose traction.

I think the issue is when it’s used on snowy/ slushy roads rather than Ice. I would agree, on ice it’s probably pretty good.

Can slippery mode be used for rainy highways and side streets?
From the manual:
Slippery

For less than ideal road conditions such as snow or ice covered roads. This mode can be used for crossing terrain where a firm surface is covered with loose, wet or slippery material. Slippery mode lowers throttle response and optimizes shifting for slippery surfaces.

Note: Do not use this mode when driving on dry pavement. This could cause driveline bind up and damage the system depending on the four-wheel drive mode selection.
What do you think?

IMHO, I wouldn't use SLIPPERY for just wet roads. The whole point of SLIPPERY mode is to lower throttle response to reduce acceleration and the chance of spinning your wheels. Even on a wet road you'll have to tromp on the accelerator pretty hard to break the wheels loose. If, however, you are that kind of driver and find your wheels spinning every time you step on the pedal in the rain, then you might benefit from using SLIPPERY mode.

You can use it anywhere but I wouldn't. It really seems to be geared towards actual ice. Never to be used on dry surfaces. I tried it once on a snowy road surface. I didn't like the lack of throttle response. Seemed to make it seem like you were losing traction when it just wasn't accelerating.

During the first rain after a long dry spell, I watched a guy spin out in an intersection when he accelerated while turning left. Here in poor NM, most vehicles seem to leak oil so during the first rain the roads get slick. There is a bit of a jump when the turbo kicks in. My Jeep Liberty had a huge jump, and could spin out on dry pavement if you had it floored. The Sport is much better behaved. Less throttle response is good.

In my experience slippery mode is only really useful if you're unfamiliar with your vehicles reaction with input given.

Also, it did lock up the brakes on me once when coming to a stop at a red light with ice, I slid about 30 feet traveling at about 35 mph.

I'm not sure if changing your cars dynamics from the way you're used to during conditions like that is necessarily a good thing.
Just my opinion I guess.

went to the Off-Roadeo and their guy said you should really only use slippery in icy conditions, you can keep it in normal and just select the 4wd near your goat mode knob for snow and stuff. It puts a lot of wear on your brakes so only should use it when you need it, IE ice/Snow.

I went to training a couple times in Deming at the DHS facility there before I retired. The road in and out through the flatlands for 2 or 3 miles was COVERED with lizards every day for 2 weeks each tine. Pretty slippy!

Maybe the same for Mayflies! They have to pull out the snow plows in late May or early June depending on the hatch. Greasy as all get out!
