Considering you can pay close to $15K for a road licensed golf cart, I think I would rather have one of these for trips to the beach/store when I retire. A golf cart does not have AC/heat, protection from inclement weather, airbags, cruise control, allowed on highways, or have a frunk.

I wonder if you can flat tow it behind a Class A motor coach like people do with a Jeep, but regeneratively recharge the battery?

I reserved one. I figure demand is going to be so high I can flip it. I want to know when they go public.

It would be a perfect tow unit for most! They definitely need to make sure it can regen charge while towing. Golf carts, Yup, paid 23,000.00 for mine in Canada. Fancy for a cart but still a cart with 80 km range. Works fine for a resort unit.

It uses a permanent magnet motor, so no flat towing behind a Class A MH
“according to a response from a Slate representative, the Slate Truck is flat towable behind an RV or motorhome. This information was shared in a discussion on the iRV2 forums, where a user inquired about the possibility of using the Slate Truck as a toad (a vehicle towed behind a motorhome). The Slate Agent Team confirmed:”

And this:

“This is notable because most electric vehicles equipped with permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are not flat towable due to the risk of generating electricity while being towed, which can damage the motor or inverter. The Slate Truck’s design appears to address this issue, potentially through a drivetrain disconnect or a specific tow mode, although detailed technical specifications have not been publicly released.

Caution: While this information is promising, it’s essential to wait for official documentation from Slate Motors before planning to flat tow the vehicle. Manufacturers often provide specific procedures or limitations for flat towing, and following these guidelines is crucial to avoid potential damage or warranty issues.

If you’re considering the Slate Truck for RV towing, it’s advisable to monitor official communications from Slate Motors for detailed towing instructions and to ensure that any flat towing is performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.”
